Parachute Vision Zero Canadian Landscape 4.0 (available in English only)
Parachute’s latest Vision Zero Canadian Landscape 4.0 builds on the previous edition published in 2022, providing a comprehensive overview of Vision Zero implementation across Canada. The report highlights the successes, challenges and lessons learned by communities at different stages of adoption, implementation and evaluation, offering valuable insights for jurisdictions looking to strengthen their own Vision Zero initiatives and accelerate progress toward safer roads for all.
This edition revisits jurisdictions previously featured in the 2022 report while adding 24 new communities that have since adopted Vision Zero, bringing the total to 44 provincial and municipal jurisdictions. It also includes in-depth interviews with representatives from 22 jurisdictions across Canada, showcasing their progress, innovative practices and ongoing challenges in advancing Vision Zero.

WEBINAR RECORDING: Advancing Vision Zero and Safe System Application in Canada: Tools, Trends and Lessons for Safer Communities
On August 18, 2026, Raheem Dilgir, President, TranSafe Consulting Ltd., Parachute’s Valerie Smith, Director of Road Safety Programs, supported by Anne Stewart, Parachute Co-ordinator, Knowledge Translation and Programs, discussed two important Canadian resources supporting Vision Zero and Safe System Approach: Parachute’s 2026 Vision Zero Canadian Landscape 4.0 and the Transportation Association of Canada’s 2025 Government Survey preliminary findings on Vision Zero and the Safe System Approach. The webinar highlights how these complementary resources can help municipalities and road safety practitioners inform and advance Vision Zero and Safe System implementation. Participants heard from national road safety leaders about the current state of Vision Zero and Safe System implementation in Canada and the actions needed to accelerate progress toward safer roads for everyone.

Durham Region wins Road Safety Achievement Award for Durham Vision Zero (Durham Region, May 19, 2026)
Durham Region received the 2026 Transportation Association of Canada Road Safety Achievement award for their Durham Vision Zero 2019 to 2024 Strategic Road Safety Action Plan and Report Card. The goal of the plan was to have a reduction in fatality and serious injuries by 10 per cent in the five years the plan was implemented. The city exceeded the goal by achieving an 11-per-cent reduction. Durham has created a data- driven model for other cities wanting to implement or improve their road safety with Vision Zero.

Vancouver council backs away from reducing speed limits on major roads (CBC News, June 11, 2026)
Vancouver City Council voted against lowering speed limits on major roads despite it being a proposed action in their Vision Zero Safe Mobility Plan. Speeds were proposed to be lowered from 50km/h to 30 or 40 km/h with a gradual implementation timeline of 2031. Vision Zero Vancouver, a local citizen advocacy group, was disappointed with the motion and called the safety plan without the speed reductions “watered down”.

‘Horrifying’: Data shows almost 400% increase in speeding since ASE cameras removed from city streets (City News, June 24, 2026)
The City of Toronto is advocating for the Ontario government to bring back automated speed enforcement cameras after a huge increase in speeding in community safety and school zones where the cameras were previously implemented. The city found there was a 380-per-cent increase in drivers speeding 16 kilometres or more in community safety zones. The City of Toronto recorded 25 traffic-related fatalities from December 2025 to May 2026 with two of them being close to where cameras were placed in the past.

City of Regina seeks input on Cathedral Safety Zone (CTV News, June 24, 2026)
The City of Regina is seeking feedback from residents on the success of making the Cathedral neighbourhood a safety zone as part of the city’s Vision Zero road safety framework. The neighbourhood has been a community safety zone for two years with speed limits lowered to 40 km/h. The area was selected due to high volume of pedestrians and schools. Traffic data will also be used to determine the success of the program.

‘Fundamentally flawed’: Councillors rail on draft transportation plan (CollingwoodToday, July 23, 2026)
The Town of Collingwood deferred signing on to Vision Zero in a recent council meeting electing to wait until the final Master Mobility and Transportation Plan (MMTP) for the town is finished. Mayor Yvonne Hamlin voted for adding Vision Zero and expressed disappointment in the draft MMTP as she does not believe it takes all road users into account. Councillors opposed to adding Vision Zero immediately wanted to build off the final MMTP and avoid adding more changes before the plan is finalized.
