From the book written by Thomas Rowley, with photography by D. Brent Miller:
Hope in the Face of Challenge
 | Iowa Grain Elevators |
With all that is going on today around the world, and in our country, a lot of news gets shoved to the back burner. Perhaps one of the biggest debates in our country is the continued dialogue over health care.
I wonder how much access to health care has changed in the small towns and rural areas of the United States. I am going to guess, it has changed little except for the cost of health care insurance. In 2002, Tom Rowley and I ventured out to examine rural health care and look for some of those innovative ideas to make health and dental care accessible. We visited 10 locations around the country. Tom wrote the book. I added the photography. It was published by the National Rural Health Association in 2004.
I wonder if anyone in Congress read what we found. Perhaps they should. You can see a slideshow of the photography in the book and hear my commentary here. There is also a news story and two radio interviews with Tom and I in "Brent in the News." The book is also now available from Amazon.com.
