LA Skins Fest 2018
Vision Maker Media Attends and Sponsors LA Skins Fest
Vision Maker Media attended the LA Skins Fest last month at the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Here are a few highlights of the day:
  • "The People's Protectors" and "Warrior Women" were both screened at the festival.
  • "Warrior Women"won "Best Feature Documentary" during the Celebrate Natives in TV, Film and New Media event.
  • Executive Director Shirley Sneve joined the panel for the 2018 Native American Documentary Track Program with Micah Wright, Executive Director of First Nations Experience, Hud Oberly of Native Sundance, and moderated by Ian Skorodin.
  • Assistant Director Rebekka Schlichting reunited with a former Vision Maker Media student worker Payton Canku and attended the "Warrior Women" Q&A Session with Elizabeth Castle and Christina King.

The report, authored by NAJA member Jodi Rave of the Indigenous Media Freedom Alliance, provides a snapshot of the challenges and accomplishments of contemporary Native media.
