Job Retention Scheme

  • Further guidance, and a new Treasury Direction, was released over the weekend, covering up to the end of January 2021.
  • A further Treasury Direction is expected to outline how the scheme will run from February 2021.
  • It was confirmed that, for claim periods starting on or after 1 December 2020, employers cannot claim the grant for any days on or after 1 December 2020 during which the furloughed employee was serving a contractual or statutory notice period.
  • This is a departure from the original rules, where those serving notice periods could be furloughed.
  • Employers will have to bear this mind if they are considering making staff redundant – as always, they should consider all other alternatives first.
  • Remember that they can claim 80% of furloughed staff wages, and it looks like this will be the case until at least January.
  • It has also been confirmed that a shorter notice period than 8 weeks can be agreed when an employee on maternity wants to return early to be furloughed, in certain circumstances.
You can now claim for periods starting 1 November under the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS), which is running until the end of March for all parts of the UK.

You will still need to submit all final claims for periods up to 31‌‌‌ ‌October on or before 3‌‌‌‌0 November.

Make sure you have the latest information by joining the live Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme webinar, which includes:

  • who can claim
  • who you can claim for
  • how to calculate what you can claim
  • how to make a claim for all periods.

We will continue to update our webinars to reflect the latest information as it becomes available.

Boston Manor House to receive vital funding
Boston Manor House in Hounslow is set to receive vital funding towards essential restoration from the Historic Houses Foundation.

The Historic Houses Foundation is a major beneficiary of the Heritage Stimulus Fund, recently announced by the UK Government and Historic England, which will provide support for restoration work on some of England’s most important and vulnerable historic buildings.

Work will begin immediately and during winter, before the start of the new tourist season in Spring 2021 and is expected to provide employment to a wide range of traditional craftsmen and building professionals, in addition to other local employment opportunities.

Hounslow to trial UK’s first autonomous road delivery vehicle
Hounslow is to be the first location in the UK to trial autonomous electric delivery vehicles on its roads. The Kar-go, designed by British start-up, Academy of Robotics, will be the first custom-built autonomous delivery vehicle to travel on the roads in the UK

Designed to offer a contact-free form of delivery, the company has chosen to make its first deliveries from pharmacies to care homes and will later introduce deliveries from a depot to work sites for Hounslow Highways. The Kar-go will be driving itself to and from the sender and recipient’s address and will perform parcel hand-over autonomously using on-board robotics.

As an electric vehicle, the rollout of this technology offers significant environmental and health benefits and presents a green alternative to diesel delivery vans, enabling logistics companies and retailers to keep delivery costs down, whilst providing the convenience of on-demand delivery.

Lots of great jobs in Hounslow!
