A video to say thank you!

On 14th September, over 200 people gathered online for the Borough Recovery Conference, to discuss plans to address the social and economic impact of coronavirus on Hounslow. It was a fantastic opportunity for the Council to share ideas with local partners, businesses and community groups. It was also a chance for us to reflect and celebrate the incredible work of individuals and groups, including your Chamber of Commerce, across the community that worked so hard to address the challenges of lockdown. You can watch our One Hounslow, Forward Together video, that played at the beginning of the conference which told some of that important story so far. The Council is now collating all the information discussed at the conference, which will help shape the recovery plans.
An update on the Mayor of London’s Back to Business Fund

There are now hundreds of businesses across London taking part and over £150K has been allocated from the Mayors fund. Please click here to see some of the projects. https://payitforward.london.gov.uk/search/projects  But they only have one from Hounslow currently, it would be great to have more. To remind you of the scheme:

The Mayor of London’s Back to Business Fund - will offer up to £5,000 in match funding to small and independent businesses through the Pay It Forward London crowdfunding platform. The Fund will match every pound raised by an eligible business up to a maximum of £5,000 - or 50% of their campaign target - in sectors which rely on physical trading and have been badly affected by Covid-19 restrictions, including retail, hospitality, leisure, tourism, travel, creative and arts, entertainment and recreation, and health and fitness.

Pay It Forward London is a crowdfunding platform that enables businesses to raise vital funds and stay afloat, rebuild and recover from the impacts of Covid-19 through crowdfunding. Since its launch in April, over 4,000 Londoners have donated over £280,000 to support their favourite local businesses. Applications open on Monday 10 August. Register your interest now, start crowdfunding and receive coaching support from Crowdfunder to prepare you for your funding application: https://payitforward.london.gov.uk/fund

This month, the first students will embark on one of three new T Level courses at selected colleges, schools and other providers across England. Cranford Community College, in our area is offering T Levels in Digital and in Education.

To quote Alan Fraser, Director of the College: ‘T levels are an exciting new Level 3 qualification equipping young people with the skills needed for the future world of work’

Brief overview of T Levels
T Levels are central to the Government’s plans to improve technical and vocational education and address the skills gap. With content designed by more than 250 employers, these new high-quality technical qualifications follow GCSEs and will deliver a pipeline of young people with the skills, knowledge and workplace experience that businesses need.

These rigorous 2-year courses are based on the world’s best technical education systems and combine classroom learning with a substantial industry placement. Each T Level is equivalent to 3 A Levels and attracts UCAS points offering graduates the opportunity of moving into a job, an apprenticeship or continuing to further study.

The industry placement, lasting at least 45 days, is unique to T Levels and allows students to put the knowledge and skills they have learned into practice. It is also an opportunity to try out their chosen industry and gain experience in the workplace. For employers, they offer the chance to bring in fresh ideas and to spot and nurture early talent.
The Mulberry Centre (TMC) is an award winning cancer information and support centre based on the grounds of the West Middlesex University Hospital in Isleworth, Middlesex. It has been open for over 19 years and provided services to more than 15,000 people. They currently have over 3,300 registered users. They offer information, complementary therapies and emotional support for anyone affected by cancer. They are a registered charity and are funded entirely by charitable donations.

TMC are seeking a Chair of Trustees to replace the present Chair who is stepping down after 4 years. With Covid 19 all charities are facing challenges at the moment, but the Centre has risen to the challenges and has a great deal to offer for the future. The Trustees are keen to find the right person for the next phase of the Charity’s development and someone who will share our vision and values. The Chair will normally serve an initial term of three years and may at the discretion of the Trustees be appointed for a second term not exceeding three years.

Call-Out for Creative Start-Ups

In November, Creative Network West will be producing a special issue of its newsletter on creative start-ups in the London Borough of Hounslow, and will be following this up with a networking event.

If you'd like your start-up to be featured in the special issue, please click the button below to submit your details and an image. All submissions need to be received by Friday 2 October

What is a creative start-up?
By 'start-up' we mean a company (including sole traders) that is in its initial business stage. You might be trading already, but still getting established, or you might be in the process of raising capital or developing your products or brand.
And you'll be in the creative sector, which broadly interpreted can include not just the arts, media, and design, but also research, marketing, and services ranging from hairdressing to catering. If you feel creative, you are.
To be eligible, either you or your business must be based or active in the London Borough of Hounslow (which includes areas such as Feltham, Chiswick, Brentford, Isleworth, and Heston).
What is Creative Network West?
The Creative Network is building a community of creatives in the borough of Hounslow and its immediate surrounds. It brings people together in the creative sector to encourage new connections and collaborations, peer support and business development opportunities. It is run by Creative People and Places Hounslow on behalf of the Hounslow Creative Enterprise Zone.

What's coming up with the Creative Network?

The Creative Process
Thu 15th October, 7.30–9pm on Zoom

In October we'll be running a networking event exploring the creative process. Terry Mardi, Terri Creaser, and Derek Pearce, who between them have experience in TV and film, theatre, community arts, music, and fine art, will be joining us to talk about their different approaches to creativity, from generating ideas to turning them into a reality. The event will include online networking activities to make sure everyone gets a chance to connect and be heard.
You'll be able to book from 24 September. In the meantime, if you'd like a reminder about the event, send me an email to robin@watermans.org.uk, or keep an eye on our Instagram account: @creativenetworkwest

EXCITING NEWS

Class 1 Hammersmith Hospitality has been a well established temporary agency supplier into the Hospitality arena for over 20 years. In that time we have created an unrivalled representation for being able to supply large volumes of BOH and FOH staff both reactively and with planning.

We have decided to combine our Hammersmith Class 1 Catering business along with the WeAreTalent business to create a combined new business name called … “BIA PEOPLE”

(BIA is the Irish meaning for Food). We believe that by combining the two companies and their resources and talent pool, we will be well placed as the Industry starts to make some recovery from the current situation. We will also be much more adequately placed to provide both reactive and proactive support to all our clients, across both companies.

This is primarily a change of name and brand so for all contractual arrangements it will be business as usual as all our details remain the same, other than the new Name.

We are really excited about this business development, which we believe will put us in a strong position , to be reactive to the requirements and demand as they arise over the forthcoming weeks/months.

We also have a large bank of candidates that are fully trained at COVID hygiene delivery via our on line Flow module training, so please do contact us if we can be of any support to the business.
