Work Zones limited over July Fourth holiday
With Missouri once again open for business, the July Fourth weekend will find many travelers hitting the road for some holiday fun. Because of the anticipated increase in weekend traffic, MoDOT will suspend road construction and routine maintenance operations starting at noon on Thursday, July 2 until 10 p.m. on Sunday, July 5.

With relaxed restrictions following the lifting of statewide COVID-19 health orders on June 16—and with the July Fourth holiday coming on a Saturday—traffic is expected to be heavy on Missouri’s roads all weekend. MoDOT is reminding motorists to be attentive, courteous and responsible. Read more.

Celebrate responsibly
Law enforcement will be out July 2-6 with increased efforts to stop impaired drivers. No warnings. No excuses. If you drive impaired, you will be arrested. Last year, 93 arrests were made during the holiday. Don’t risk losing your independence by driving under the influence.  Read more.
Rising traffic deaths alarming
While traffic volumes dropped by half during the statewide stay-at-home order, traffic deaths have increased by 12%. There have been more than 400 fatalities on Missouri roads already this year—that’s more than 40 additional lives lost compared to last year. Read more.
MoDOT receives $1 million grant
The USDOT's Federal Highway Administration awarded a $1 million Advanced Transportation and Congestion Management Technologies Deployment grant to MoDOT for its Predictive Layered Operation Initiative on Interstate 270. The project will use predictive models to determine the likelihood of crashes and response times. Learn more.
Work to begin on I-70 climbing lanes
Construction on the east and westbound truck climbing lanes on Interstate 70 in Montgomery County, in the area known as Mineola Hill, will begin the week of July 6. Visit the project website for more details.
St. Louis I-270 North Project update
Demolition of the Old Halls Ferry Road bridge over Interstate 270 took place June 12-15. It is anticipated the bridge will be closed through September. For project details, updates and to view a live webcam, visit the project website.
I-70 to close in both directions in Kansas City
MoDOT will CLOSE both directions of Interstate 70 on the east side of Kansas City’s downtown loop beginning July 10 at 7:30 p.m. until approximately 6 a.m. on July 13. The closure will impact eastbound and westbound traffic from approximately Admiral Blvd. to Paseo Blvd. and close all ramps in between. Read more.
