Work to Do

by Father Casey

Transfiguration’s reputation as an inclusive community is a source of great pride for us. Thanks to countless leaders and members, we have created a culture of affirmation and unwavering welcome over many decades. As a result, we are known around the region for seeing and treating all people with dignity and respect, just as our Baptismal Covenant calls us to. We do not merely tolerate or accept. We embrace. We don’t just talk about loving all people. We strive to practice it.

As a result, it is a rare weekend that I don’t meet someone attending for the first time who came because they learned of our embrace of LGBT+ persons. Perhaps they heard about us from a friend or entered “gay friendly churches in my area” in their search engine. Whatever the reason, I am delighted to greet them and share that inclusivity is not something we’re still figuring out or debating. It’s not really even a topic we discuss very much. Because it’s already deep in our DNA. It’s who we are.

Lately, our reputation has led to a growing number of nonbinary and transgender visitors and...

Please consider shopping for NEW items, including: Best Mom items; Costume jewelry, bags; scarves; make-up sets; candles; picture frames; soaps, lotions, bubble bath salts; cosmetic bags; and gift bags (large) and ribbons.  Donations should be brought on April 30 or May 7 to the Outreach table in the gathering space. Volunteers are also needed to help on May 13. Adult Formation Opportunities

This Sunday, April 30, and the following Sunday, May 7 at 10:15am there are three outstanding formation opportunities awaiting you:

  • Easter Monarchs

From chrysalis to flight; from death to life. Butterflies have long been a part of our Easter celebrations at Transfiguration. The children release them on Easter day, and they decorate the embroidered altar linens that we use throughout the Great Fifty Days. Fr. Casey will continue our exploration of butterflies as symbols of Christ’s resurrection.

  • Poetry of Resurrection

In the centuries since the good news of Easter was first proclaimed by the women leaving the tomb, Christians have been inspired to share the gospel in music, art, and poetry. Join Mother Rebecca as she guides us through some of the most remarkable, faith-filled poems about the resurrection.

  • Becoming a Docent of The Saint John's Bible

On Wednesday nights during the season of Lent, we had the opportunity to explore the mysteries of death and resurrection held within the pages of our Heritage Edition of The Saint John’s Bible. We were assisted by a docent who guided our experience and helped us see the layers of meaning contained within the ink and gold. This class is open to all: those who already attended trainings and those who would like to be trained as docents. We will cover presentation techniques and everyone will have the opportunity to practice being a docent. You do not need to be a Biblical scholar, just a love of God’s Word and the desire to share it with others.

For more details and finalized locations see the Adult Formation Page on our website.
