NEW "BYE" Information

Many New Yorkers are approaching their Benefit Year End Date (or “BYE Date”) but may qualify for extended federal benefits or a new unemployment insurance (UI) claim.

The information below will help you understand what you need to do next and if you need to re-apply:
  • UI recipients who went back to work AND earned more than 10x their weekly benefit rate (excluding earnings from self-employment) MUST file a new claim for benefits. To determine if you have earned 10x your benefit rate, multiply your weekly benefit rate by 10.
  • UI claimants do NOT have to reapply at their BYE date if, since filing their claim in 2020, they did not return to work for an employer OR did not earn 10x their weekly benefit rate (excluding self-employment wages.) Instead, they can keep certifying while unemployed.
  • PUA claimants do NOT have to reapply if unemployed when they reach their BYE date. Just keep certifying to receive the benefits you are entitled to.

After you reapply, DOL will review your claim for eligibility to determine if you qualify for a new claim, or if you can continue receiving PEUC and/or EB.

The best way to file a new claim is online. You can also call TCC to reapply. If you must reapply, you will NOT be able to extend your current claim. DOL is constantly upgrading their technology and processing a new claim should be a matter of weeks.

All New Yorkers who are filing new claims should reapply on a certain day, based on the first letter of their last name (view the filing schedule). If you miss your filing day, you can file your new claim on the Friday after your BYE date or the day associated with your last name in a later week.
