Educational Kiosks Coming to Lancaster County!
After approval from the Board of Directors earlier this year, LCWDB purchased 36 kiosks to be placed throughout Lancaster County at public and private schools, educational centers, and even some libraries. These kiosks will feature a microsite - a website dedicated to events or services - and will be available to the public to see and learn about different job opportunities within Lancaster County. The hope of LCWDB is to better educate people about jobs right here, in our own backyard, and get them excited about possible career paths they might not have even known about before!

Career Ready Lancaster!
Full Council Meeting Updates
In case you missed our last Career Ready Lancaster! meeting, here's your chance to get in the loop! This meeting was focused on adult re-education, as it's never too late to learn something new. We heard from speakers such as Juliane Flood from the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce, Greg Timmons from PA College of Art and Design, our very own Val Hatfield, and many more! Part of Timmons' presentation included a video from the series, How Cool is That!, made by PCAD students to show off local businesses. If you're interested in seeing the full PowerPoint used at the meeting, you can find it here. The next Career Ready Lancaster! is October 20, 2023 from 7:30 - 9 AM at the Lancaster-Lebanon IU13 Building on New Holland Avenue. These meetings are open to the public, so feel free to join us!

Board of Directors Updates
Please help us with giving a warm welcome to all of our new board members! We've gained some people since the last newsletter, and I thought I'd introduce you to the new members.
First we have Salena Coachman the VP of Talent Sustainability, Diversity, and Inclusion at Armstrong World Industries. A new transplant to Lancaster, she brings a long career history that will be a great strength to both Lancaster and Armstrong World Industries.
Our next new board member is Todd Burgard. President and CEO of Burgard, a Creative Agency. Between 25 years of experience and being a local Lancaster company, you've probably seen some of his agency's work!
Last, but certainly not least is Keith White, a Union Representative and President of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union, Local 374-G representing the employees at Kellogg Company in Lancaster.

Since the last time we've sent out a newsletter, we've hired on a handful of new people! We now have a full house a LCWDB and are happy for it. Since there's more than a few new people here, I'll take this space to introduce them!
First up we have Mary Byrd, our new Youth Coordinator! She recently earned her Master's in Organizational Leadership from Central Penn College, and we're more than happy to have her on our team. You'll see her around the county helping to organize different youth programs, assisting in Career Ready Lancaster!, and helping get our educational kiosks out into schools!
Next in our new line-up is Tamara Garcia-Burkart, who will be assisting Anibal as our new Fiscal Coordinator! Tamara comes to us with years of experience in bookkeeping, and is currently pursuing her Bachelor's of Accounting from Western Governors University. A Lancaster County native, she's excited to see how she can put her skills to help build the local workforce and learn more about the ins and outs of non-profits.
Last but not least, we have our new Contracts Administrator, Brie Kulp! Brie comes to us from Reading Area Community College and brings a wealth of information with her. A transplant to Lancaster County, she looks forward to meeting and working with all the wonderful businesses and organizations we have here in Lancaster!

August is National American Adventure Month!
Take some time for yourself this month
If you're feeling burnt out from work, you're not alone! In a time full of others taking vacations, you may feel like you have to more work to do while they're out. Don't forget about yourself! This month is American Adventure month, which celebrates exactly what it sounds like - adventuring in America! Take your friends, your family, or just yourself and go on a vacation to somewhere you've never been to in America before. It's not just good for your mental health, it's also good for both your work productivity and for the local economies of wherever you may visit. It's a win-win!
If you need inspiration of where to go, visitPA.com has some ideas:
How about an ice cream trail?! There's nothing better than a scoop of ice cream on a hot day https://www.visitpa.com/trip/scooped-ice-cream-trail

Food Preparation Worker Employment Outlook
Does it feel like there's more and more ice cream places to choose from? That's thanks to more and more food preparation workers! While the restaurant and food service industry definitely took a hit during the Covid pandemic, Lancaster's bouncing back better than ever! This time last year, we were needing food preparation workers, with only about 16,000 people in that industry. However, at the time of this newsletter, we now have almost 20,000 people working in the food industry! What a great comeback for an industry so heavily affected by the pandemic. With Lancaster's growing workforce and population, we need about 150 people to learn more about the food service industry. If you've ever been interested in learning about food service, now's your time!
