From December 2019 to December 2021...
Through the rest of the year, the year-over-year analysis in this newsletter will compare data from the current year to data from 2019. This shift will allow us to compare the pre-pandemic data to current labor market information, and help us provide a better analysis of the economic recovery.

Highlights from the recent report include:

  • From December 2019 to December 2021, the unemployment rate in Tulare County decreased by 1.7 percent, and jobs decreased by 0.6 percent
  • The 8.4 percent unemployment rate represents the lowest December unemployment rate for Tulare County since 1990, as far back as data is available
  • From December 2019 to December 2021, employment increased by 1,600, while the labor force decreased by 1,900
  • From November to December of this year, the industries with the largest numerical month-over growth were Wholesale Trade and Financial Activities, while Farm experienced the largest month-over numerical loss in jobs

HOW DOES TULARE COUNTY'S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE CHANGE OVER TIME?
The California Employment Development Department (EDD) reported a 1.7 percent decrease in Tulare County's unemployment rate, from a revised 10.1 percent in December 2019 to 8.4 percent in December 2021. 

From November to December of 2021, the month-over-month unemployment rate increased by 0.2 percent, lower than the average month-over increase of 1.0 percent.

HOW MANY JOBS HAVE COME AND GONE IN THE LAST YEAR & THE LAST MONTH?
2019 TO 2021 | A COMPARISON
From December 2019 to December 2021, Transportation, Warehousing & Utilities, and Farm shared the greatest year-over numerical gain with an increase of 1,300 jobs, while Transportation, Warehousing & Utilities showed the greatest percent gain with job growth of 17.3 percent. Professional & Business Services showed the greatest numerical decline with a loss of 1,100 jobs, while Information showed the greatest percent decline with a job loss of 28.6 percent.
MONTH OVER MONTH | A COMPARISON
From November to December 2021, Wholesale Trade and Financial Activities shared the greatest month-over numerical gain with an increase of 100 jobs, while Financial Activities showed the greatest percent increase with job growth of 2.8 percent. Farm showed the greatest month-over numerical and percent decline with a loss of 3,500 jobs and 9.4 percent of jobs.
