From July 2019 to July 2021...
Through the rest of the year, the year-over-year analysis in this newsletter will compare data from the current year to data from 2019. This shift will allow us to compare the pre-pandemic data to current labor market information, and help us provide a better analysis of the economic recovery.

Highlights from the recent report include: 

  • From July 2019 to July 2021, the Tulare County Employment Report showed an increase of 1.1 percent in the unemployment rate and a 2.0 percent decrease in jobs
  • From July 2019 to July 2021, employment decreased by 3,400 and the labor force decreased by 1,200
  • From June to July of this year, the industry with the largest numerical month-over growth was Local Government (All Other), while Farm experienced the largest month-over numerical loss in jobs

HOW DOES TULARE COUNTY'S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE CHANGE OVER TIME?
The California Employment Development Department (EDD) reported a 1.1 percent increase in Tulare County's unemployment rate, from a revised 10.0 percent in July 2019 to 11.1 percent in July 2021. 

From June to July of 2021, the month-over-month unemployment rate did not change. Although the unemployment rate averages an increase of 0.4 from June to July, this is the second consecutive year that no change is recorded.

HOW MANY JOBS HAVE COME AND GONE IN THE LAST YEAR & THE LAST MONTH?
2019 TO 2021 | A COMPARISON
From July 2019 to July 2021, Transportation, Warehousing & Utilities and Retail Trade shared the greatest numerical gains with increases of 500 jobs, while Transportation, Warehousing & Utilities showed the greatest percent increase with job growth of 7.1 percent. Local Government (Education), Food Services & Drinking Places, and Professional & Business Services shared the greatest numerical decline with a loss of 500 jobs, while Arts, Entertainment & Recreation showed the greatest percent decline with a job loss of 33.3 percent.
MONTH OVER MONTH | A COMPARISON
From June to July 2021, Local Government (All Other) showed the greatest month-over numerical gain with an increase of 800 jobs, while Accommodation showed the greatest percent gain with job growth of 16.7 percent. Farm showed the greatest month-over numerical decline with a loss of 5,000 jobs, while Local Government (Education) showed the greatest percent decline with a loss of 18.3 percent of jobs.
