From January 2020 to January 2022...
The year-over-year analysis in this newsletter will compare data from the current year to data from 2020. This shift will allow us to compare the pre-pandemic data to current labor market information, and help us provide a better analysis of the economic recovery.

Highlights from the recent report include:

  • Due to annual benchmark revisions of the Labor Force and Industry Employment estimates, some data is temporarily unavailable for the months between January 2010 to December 2020
  • The 9.5 percent unemployment rate represents the lowest January unemployment rate for Tulare County since 1990, as far back as data is available
  • From December 2021 to January of this year, the industry with the largest numerical month-over growth was Educational & Health Services, while Retail Trade experienced the largest month-over numerical loss in jobs

HOW DOES TULARE COUNTY'S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE CHANGE OVER TIME?
The California Employment Development Department (EDD) reported a 1.4 increase in Tulare County's month-over-month unemployment rate, from a revised 8.1 percent in December 2021 to 9.5 percent in January 2022.

HOW MANY JOBS HAVE COME AND GONE IN THE LAST YEAR & THE LAST MONTH?
2019 TO 2021 | A COMPARISON
From January 2020 to January 2022, Transportation, Warehousing & Utilities, showed the greatest year-over numerical and percent gains with an increase of 2,300 jobs, and job growth of 31.9 percent. Farm showed the greatest numerical decline with a loss of 1,600 jobs, while Arts, Entertainment & Recreation showed the greatest percent decline with a job loss of 20.0 percent.
MONTH OVER MONTH | A COMPARISON
From December 2021 to January 2022, Educational & Health Services showed the greatest month-over numerical and percent gains with an increase of 100 jobs and growth of 0.5 percent. Retail Trade showed the greatest month-over numerical decline with a loss of 600 jobs, while Information showed the greatest percent decline with a job loss 14.3 percent.
