Highlights from the recent report include:

  • From June 2021 to June 2022, the unemployment rate in Tulare County decreased by 4.4 percent, and jobs increased by 6.8 percent
  • The 7.3 percent unemployment rate represents the lowest June unemployment rate for Tulare County since 1990, as far back as data is available
  • From June 2021 to June 2022, employment increased by 13,500, and the labor force increased by 4,900
  • In June 2022, Tulare County saw record high employment for all industries combined, and the highest employment numbers for the following industries since 1990, as far back as data is available: Educational & Health Services, Accommodation, Food Services & Drinking Places, and Other Services

HOW DOES TULARE COUNTY'S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE CHANGE OVER TIME?
The California Employment Development Department (EDD) reported a 4.4 percent decrease in Tulare County's unemployment rate, from a revised 11.7 percent in June 2021 to 7.3 percent in June 2022. 

From May to June of 2022, the month-over-month unemployment rate increased by 0.8 percent, greater than the average month-over increase of 0.4 percent.
The graph below shows the trends in June employment and unemployment over the last 10 years. In June of 2022, there were 207,200 people in the labor force.

HOW MANY JOBS HAVE COME AND GONE IN THE LAST YEAR & THE LAST MONTH?
YEAR OVER YEAR | A COMPARISON
From June 2021 to June 2022, Farm showed the greatest year-over numerical gain with an increase of 4,900 jobs, while Transportation, Warehousing & Utilities showed the greatest percent gains with job growth of 25.3 percent. Wholesale Trade and Federal Government shared the greatest year-over numerical decline with a loss of 100 jobs, and Federal Government showed the greatest percent decline with a job loss of 8.3 percent.
MONTH OVER MONTH | A COMPARISON
From May to June 2022, Educational & Health Services showed the greatest numerical gain with an increase of 200 jobs, while Federal Government showed the greatest percent gain, with job growth of 10.0 percent. Farm showed the greatest month-over numerical decline with a loss of 500 jobs, while Local Government (All Other) showed the greatest percent decline with a loss of 1.5 percent of jobs.
