From August 2021 to August 2022...

Highlights from the recent report include:



• From August 2021 to August 2022, the unemployment rate in Tulare County decreased by 2.5 percent, and jobs increased by 3.1 percent
• The 7.9 percent unemployment rate represents the lowest August unemployment rate for Tulare County since August 2006
• From August 2021 to August 2022, employment increased by 9,100, and the labor force increased by 4,500
• In August 2022, Tulare County saw record high employment numbers for Total Nonfarm jobs and for the following specific industries: Educational & Health Services, Accommodation, Food Services & Drinking Places, Other Services, and Local Government (special districts)

The California Employment Development Department (EDD) reported a 2.5 percent decrease in Tulare County's unemployment rate, from a revised 10.4 percent in August 2021 to 7.9 percent in August 2022. 

Over the last ten years, the average month-over-month unemployment rate from July to August decreased by 0.9 percent.  This year, however, the month-over-month unemployment rate increased by 0.3 percent.

The graph below shows the trends in August employment and unemployment over the last 10 years. In August of 2022, there were 206,300 people in the labor force.

From August 2021 to August 2022, Farm showed the greatest year-over numerical gain with an increase of 1,200 jobs, while Accommodation and Arts, Entertainment & Recreation shared the greatest percent gains with job growth of 11.1 percent. Retail Trade showed the greatest year-over numerical decline with a loss of 200 jobs, while Federal Government showed the greatest percent decline with a job loss of 8.3 percent.

From July to August 2022, Local Government (Education) showed the greatest numerical and percent gains with an increase of 2,600 jobs and job growth of 19.7 percent.  The increase of jobs in Local Government (Education) is an expected bounce-back that occurs every year in August. Nondurable Goods (Manufacturing) was the only industry with month-over numerical and percent declines with a loss of 100 jobs, or 1.0 percent of jobs.
