Highlights from the recent report include:



  • From March 2023 to March 2024, the unemployment rate in Tulare County increased by 1.0 percent.
  • From March 2023 to March 2024, the labor force increased by 3,100 people, and employment increased by 700.
  • The March 2024 labor force of 213,700 represents the largest March labor force in Tulare County since 1990, as far back as data is available.
  • In March 2024, Educational & Health Services and Accommodation saw record-high employment levels.

HOW DOES TULARE COUNTY'S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE CHANGE OVER TIME?

The California Employment Development Department (EDD) reported a 1.0 percent increase in Tulare County's unemployment rate, from a revised 11.0 percent in March 2023 to 12.0 percent in March 2024.


Over the last ten years, the unemployment rate averaged a 0.6 percent increase from February to March. This year, however, the month-over-month unemployment rate decreased by 0.6 percent.

HOW MANY JOBS HAVE COME AND GONE IN THE LAST YEAR & THE LAST MONTH?
YEAR OVER YEAR | A COMPARISON

From March 2023 to March 2024, Educational & Health Services showed the greatest year-over numerical gain with an increase of 2,100 jobs, while Accommodation showed the greatest percent gain with job growth of 11.1 percent. Retail Trade showed the greatest year-over numerical decrease with a loss of 300 jobs, while Durable Goods (Manufacturing) saw the greatest percent decrease with a loss 6.3 percent of jobs.

MONTH OVER MONTH | A COMPARISON

From February to March 2024, five industries shared the greatest month-over numerical gain with an increase of 100 jobs each: Local Government (Special Districts), Food Services & Drinking Places, Construction, Professional & Business Services, and Local Government (All Other). Local Government (All Other) saw the greatest month-over percent gain with job growth of 1.5 percent. Farm showed the greatest month-over numerical and percent decrease with a loss of 2,700 jobs, or 8.0 percent of jobs.
