Highlights from the recent report include:



  • From May 2023 to May 2024, the unemployment rate in Tulare County decreased by 0.2 percent.
  • From May 2023 to May 2024, the labor force decreased by 1,800 people, while employment decreased by 1,300.
  • In May 2024, Educational & Health Services, Arts, Entertainment & Recreation, Accommodation, and Food Services & Drinking Places saw record-high employment levels.

HOW DOES TULARE COUNTY'S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE CHANGE OVER TIME?

The California Employment Development Department (EDD) reported a 0.2 percent decrease in Tulare County's unemployment rate, from a revised 9.5 percent in May 2023 to 9.3 percent in May 2024.


From April to May of 2024, the unemployment rate decreased by 1.6 percent, slightly greater than the average month-over-month decrease of 1.2 percent.

HOW MANY JOBS HAVE COME AND GONE IN THE LAST YEAR & THE LAST MONTH?
YEAR OVER YEAR | A COMPARISON

From May 2023 to May 2024, Educational & Health Services showed the greatest year-over numerical gain with an increase of 1,800 jobs, while Arts, Entertainment & Recreation showed the greatest percent gain with job growth of 20.0 percent. Retail Trade showed the greatest year-over numerical decrease with a loss of 400 jobs, while Durable Goods (Manufacturing) showed the greatest percent decrease with a loss of 3.2 percent of jobs.

MONTH OVER MONTH | A COMPARISON

From April to May 2024, Farm showed the greatest month-over numerical gain with an increase of 5,500 jobs, while Federal Government showed the greatest percent gain with job growth of 22.2 percent. There were no industries that experienced a decline in job numbers during this period.
