Impact of Your Path

Elizabeth, a Compass Early Learning Center parent, has been part of the Your Path program for over a year and a half. During that time, she has worked hard to build financial stability for her family, including consistently saving in her Individual Development Account (IDA). Like many parents in the program, Elizabeth balances limited income with the high cost of raising a young child, making every dollar count.

Around the holidays, Elizabeth faced an unexpected crisis. Her landlord informed her that the home she was renting was being sold, and she would need to find new housing quickly. With little notice, Elizabeth was suddenly confronted with the cost of moving, including a security deposit and first month’s rent. For a family living on a tight budget, these upfront expenses created an overwhelming financial strain and put stable housing at risk.

Through Pathways’ Opportunity Fund, Elizabeth was able to receive assistance with her security deposit, making it possible for her to secure safe and affordable housing for her family. This support helped bridge a critical gap during a stressful and uncertain time, allowing Elizabeth to focus on her child and continue working toward her long-term goals.

Elizabeth’s story highlights how unexpected challenges can derail even the most carefully planned budgets and how timely support can make all the difference. With the help of Pathways and the Opportunity Fund, Elizabeth was able to remain housed and continue her journey toward financial stability.

When the Unexpected Happens

Recent research from the Federal Reserve shows that 13% of American households would be completely unable to cover a $400 unexpected expense. For families living paycheck to paycheck, even a small setback can derail months of progress.

Our Opportunity Fund exists for exactly this reason. When an unexpected bill or emergency arises, Compass ELC families can access support that keeps them from falling behind, draining their savings, or taking on debt just to get by. This safety net helps parents stay focused on building long-term financial stability for their families.
