Early Education & Economic Opportunity

Studies following children from preschool into adulthood have found that high-quality early education strengthens the skills that matter most for long-term success: language development, emotional regulation, early numeracy, and the ability to work with others. These early capacities don't fade with age but magnify. Children who begin school ready to learn are more likely to read proficiently by third grade, graduate from high school, pursue postsecondary education, and secure stable employment. Over a lifetime, these advantages translate into higher earnings, stronger financial stability, and greater economic mobility.

Researchers also highlight something that Pathways' families know well: children thrive when their families are stable. When parents have access to consistent work, reliable transportation, and the ability to meet basic needs, children are better able to focus, explore, and learn. Economic stability and early learning reinforce one another, creating a foundation that supports children long after they leave the preschool classroom.

Supporting Our Mission

At Pathways, we believe every family deserves the opportunity to thrive — and with your support, we can help make that possible. From March 1 through April 30, we are working to raise $60,000 to directly support our integrated, whole-family programs.

Your gift will:

✅ Bridge the sliding fee scale gap for 12 preschoolers before they graduate to kindergarten, ensuring they receive high-quality early learning without financial barriers.

✅ Keep our Family Resource Center fridge stocked with fresh meat, dairy, produce, and other staple groceries so families can supplement their weekly essentials—helping them stretch their budgets to cover other critical needs.

How to give:

Get to Know Our Compass ELC Kids!

Recently, Compass students were asked what they wanted their futures to look like. Their answers were simple: they want families of their own, meaningful work, and to care for others. The illustration above shows a Compass student as both a teacher and a dogwalker; they want a life focused on care, kindness, and responsibility for others.

These drawings are more than just the adorable illustrations we see at first glance. They are reminders of why early learning matters. When children imagine who they might become, they are already beginning to build the skills, confidence, and sense of possibility that will carry them forward. And when families have the support they need, those dreams have room to take root.
