What the One Big Beautiful Bill Means for Our Compass Families

The recently passed One Big Beautiful Bill brings sweeping changes to tax policy, healthcare, and social support. While some provisions offer relief, others may pose serious challenges for the families we serve. Here's what you need to know:

Food Assistance at Risk

Proposed cuts to SNAP (food stamps) could leave millions of children without reliable access to food. These changes also shift costs to individual states, placing a greater burden on state budgets and potentially diverting funds from local programs. While the exact impact on Indiana is still uncertain, this could affect families statewide.

Medicaid Cuts

This bill includes over $930 billion in Medicaid reductions over 10 years, the largest in the program's history. These cuts stem from new work requirements and eligibility restrictions that could result in 8 million people losing coverage by 2034, including families with children and seniors.

No matter how these changes impact those we serve, Pathways will continue to stand with our families and support the well-being of our community.

Get to Know Our Compass ELC Kids!

We recently asked a group of Compass students what they wanted their future to look like. The most common response from students was that they wanted to have a family.

In addition to answering this question, they also drew how they imagined themselves in the future. The illustration above was created by a Compass student who shared their dream of becoming a veterinarian.

Supporting Our Mission

Pathways is raising $25,000 by August 1 to start strong as we kick off the new school year - despite the impact of sudden state voucher cuts and delayed federal funding.

When a child "graduates" from Compass to kindergarten, we want the whole family to graduate - with stability, savings, and a clear path forward.

Your gift will be matched up to $12,500 thanks to our Circle of Support Challenge participants!

Sponsor Spotlight

Each month, we're proud to highlight one of the incredible sponsors who help make our mission possible. We're honored to begin this series with Edward Jones, whose sponsorship of our Paths to Prosperity event and steadfast support for Pathways have been instrumental during our transition from Monroe County United Ministries (MCUM) to Pathways.

When asked about his involvement, Joel Schneider, Financial Advisor at Edward Jones, shared: "[It's] a way to pay it forward. My wife and I are both fortunate that we had people help us along the way. We want to make sure that our community gets the same opportunities we did. If we can use our skill sets, time, and finances to better an individual, a family, and a community then our time on this Earth is well spent."
