Promoting Vaccine Confidence
Message From Headquarters
COVID-19 vaccines have saved millions of lives worldwide. Yet, here in the US—where COVID-19 vaccines are now recommended for everyone age 6 months and older—many vulnerable populations remain unvaccinated, and routine vaccination rates have declined across the lifespan.

Together with our partners, the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID) has developed new tools and resources to help build vaccine confidence and increase vaccination rates by educating both the public and healthcare professionals (HCPs).
About 1 in 20 individuals who get pneumococcal pneumonia will die, and many adults at risk remain unvaccinated. NFID has developed a decision tree tool, infographic, and an online CME program to help HCPs understand and implement new pneumococcal vaccine recommendations for adults.
Through collaborations with many partner organizations, NFID aims to raise awareness about the value of prevention, vaccine coadministration as an opportunity to address declines in routine immunization rates, and the importance of a strong HCP recommendation. In collaboration with the AMGA Rise to Immunize™ campaign, NFID developed a new animated video highlighting the key components of strong HCP recommendations along with recommended implementation strategies. Additionally, NFID recently joined partners for a virtual summit on Addressing the Decline in Routine Immunizations.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, vaccination rates notably declined among publicly insured and uninsured children—putting these individuals and their families at risk. To raise awareness about the Vaccines for Children program, NFID has developed fact sheets (in English and Spanish). Additional resources including a short educational video and social graphics will be available in the coming weeks.
Parents have questions about COVID-19 vaccination, and NFID leaders have thoughtful answers. NFID President-Elect Patricia A. Stinchfield, RN, MS, CPNP, addressed questions from parents during a Mom 2.0 Twitter Town Hall with US Surgeon General Vivek H. Murthy, MD, MBA. In addition, NFID has created an FAQ about COVID-19 vaccines for children and NFID Medical Director William Schaffner, MD, offered his insights via the final episode of the Schaffner Report. We hope you will join us this later summer as we launch a new podcast series, featuring stimulating conversations with leading experts in the field.
The important work of NFID would not be possible without the continued support of our partners, stakeholders, and donors. On behalf of NFID, thank you!

Online Immunization Resource Center
Through a collaboration with Medscape Education, NFID offers online CME activities and accompanying resources to help increase vaccination rates among adolescents and adults, and decrease disparities. Arming HCPs along with the entire multidisciplinary team with strategies to maximize vaccination opportunities will help to reduce the burden of vaccine-preventable diseases in the US.
