Are you working on COVID-19 research?
Even if you are not funded through a sponsored award, OSP is being asked by federal sponsors how  researchers have been making contributions to the COVID-19 research over the last couple of months? If you have a story to share, publication to announce, IRB studies, or proposed research and you would like to share, please let us know. You can email  [email protected]  directly.

These contributions could be highlighted through several venues, such as NSHE Board of Regents news, OSP Weekly, Division of Research and Economic Development News, Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering also ( https://basicresearch.defense.gov/COVID-19/Basic-Researchers-on-COVID-19/ ). If you have a contribution to post on the Research Directorate page please forward your story and we will get it sent in.   Image credit: Alissa Eckert, MS; Dan Higgins, MAM
Information Regarding the Forte Payments System
UNLV is now fully utilizing the Research Payments System to electronically manage incentives, travel reimbursements, mileage, and hotel stays for UNLV research human subjects. The system will reimburse using VISA credit cards.  This new procedure was implemented on September 1, 2019, for all NEW IRB submissions and effective for all research projects (new and existing) starting January 1, 2020.  This includes ALL research projects that will be reimbursing research human subjects.

We kindly ask, as a proper check and balance, OSP to ensure Investigators are budgeting the cost of the VISAs and transactions when budgets are submitted and include research human subject reimbursements and incentives.

1. $1.50 per VISA card.
2. $0.80 for VISA transaction.

If the Investigator has any questions, please direct them to  [email protected] .
New NIH Resource to Analyze COVID-19 Literature
The COVID-19 Portfolio Tool
In the past few months, the scientific community has ramped up research in response to the SARS‑CoV‑2 pandemic; dozens of peer-reviewed articles and preprints on this topic are being added to the literature every day. This rapidly expanding effort has created a need for a human-curated resource to explore and analyze advances in SARS‑CoV‑2/COVID-19 research as they accumulate in real time. To address this need, the  NIH Office of Portfolio Analysis  (OPA) has assembled a  comprehensive portfolio  of COVID‑19 publications and preprints that is freely available to the public. The COVID-19 portfolio is updated daily with new literature selected for inclusion by subject matter experts.
The  iSearch  COVID-19 portfolio is NIH’s comprehensive, curated source for publications related to COVID-19. This portfolio includes articles from PubMed and pre-prints from arXiv, medRxiv, bioRxiv, ChemRxiv, SSRN and Research Square. The portfolio is updated daily with the latest available data.
AFWERX Challenge Initiatives
Base of the Future

In 2018, Tyndall was delivered a direct hit by Category 5 Hurricane Michael which wiped out nearly 800 structures, destroying roughly one-half and causing billions of dollars in damage. AFWERX has been tasked with facilitating and resourcing ideas for the rebuild. Tyndall has been appropriated a Military Construction (MilCon) budget of $3 billion to rebuild as a Base of the Future. In addition, there are also billions of dollars being spent on this topic across the DoD to improve the bases of all military services.

This effort is broken down into five focus areas:

  • Base Security and Defense
  • Installation Resilience
  • Leveraging Technology for Operational Effectiveness
  • Culture of Innovation
  • Empowering Airmen and Family Wellbeing
