Voting Absentee, Vote at your Leisure..but Vote!
|
|
Return Your Completed Absentee Ballot
Vote it all and send it to
your
clerk asap. Must arrive before election day. To find out where to mail or deliver,
Michigan law allows anyone 60 or older to vote absentee, or those with an interfering religious obligation, or those who
plan
to be absent on Election Day. (The key word here is plan.) The law also allows absentee voting in cases of medical emergency or
in jail awaiting arraignment or trial.
A voter can apply for an absentee ballot up to the Saturday before Election Day at the clerk’s office in your city or township. Absentee ballots must be returned by 8 pm on Election Day.
Look at the video here.
THREE PITFALLS TO AVOID WHEN VOTING ABSENTEE:
- Sign the envelope. (Your vote won’t count unless your signature is on the envelope).
- Be sure and use a 71¢ postage or two 50¢ stamps!!!!
- Mail it to the correct address.
Some voters worry that their ballot will be rejected if their signature is not identical to the one on their registration card. This is not a valid concern in Michigan, according to Larry Kestenbaum, Washtenaw County Clerk and Register of Deeds. The election board has digitalized copies of drivers’ licenses with their signatures. Also, he notes, “It’s an urban legend that absentee ballots may not be counted. Every vote is counted.”
PIease note: All clerks are open on Saturday, Nov. 3 for in-person absentee voting until 2:00 pm. In most cases, you can even walk in during business hours, collect your ballot and vote on the spot. Be sure and take your Blue Wave Ballot with you to the clerk's office if this is your plan.

Perhaps the most important thing you can do this week to win in this election
|
|
Did you know that 61% of the people who voted for Hillary in 2016 didn’t vote for the Democratic candidates for the State Supreme Court? With your help, 2018 will be different! Our Voter Guides and suggested sample ballots contain the information voters need to vote the full ballot.
Volunteers are needed to help deliver the guides to households who contain likely Democratic voters starting this Saturday in Washtenaw County. To sign up, send an email to
POC@washtenawdems.org
and you will be informed when and where you can help and what will be involved. If you would like to join other members of Protectors of Equality in Government, note that in your email. To volunteer to distribute the guides in the
the Washtenaw County portion of the 7th Congressional District,
Voter Guides are now available for 18 different counties in Michigan, including Washtenaw, Wayne and Jackson, that will be critical to victory in this election.
to select and view the guides.
Click on the words "What county do you live in?" and click on your county. A PDF file will open. To see the whole guide, scroll down to pages 2-8. Page 8 has the sample ballot. Click on page one and at the top right you will see an icon for download and print. You can then share this with folks as an attachment if you've downloaded it to your computer. OR copy the HTML address at the top and include that in your email as a link for your friends to go to.

Needed on Election Day: GOTV volunteers, Poll Workers, Watchers, Greeters, Drivers, Runners and more....
|
|
Flint Poll Workers: Urgent
In previous years, we’ve seen problems arising from confusion at the polls (people who moved, addresses not matching voter files, etc). These problems are particularly pronounced in transient places where people move around a lot — and has led to many voters who were entitled to vote being turned away. Having people at the polls who understand the laws and are committed to help people vote will be absolutely critical.
They've got a crew of people going to Detroit; they're now focusing their efforts on Flint. This requires mandatory training with the Flint City Clerk this Saturday at 1:30 pm in Flint; folks can fill out paperwork there.
"Runners" in Metro Detroit
They're going to have an army of folks at polling places across Metro Detroit acting as poll greeters, but because they are unable to cover every polling place, they're looking for folks who can serve as "runners," and take responsibility for checking in on multiple polling places to see whether there are long lines, equipment malfunctions, etc. This would only require a basic MDP training, which can be done online — there's no need to go to a training (unlike the Flint opportunity).
Anyone who's interested in serving as a poll watcher or runner on Election Day can contact Eli Savit at
esavit@michigandems.com
or (269) 267-5422.
|
|
In order to be a poll worker (Precinct Inspector, Election Inspector) in Michigan you must be registered to vote in Michigan, be at least 18 years of age, Political affiliation required, must be a resident of the county, must complete required training. Students 16 years or older who meet all other voter requirements may be appointed. You will be entitled to compensation.
To signup, contact your local board of elections.
to find them.
Poll Watcher qualification requirements
Registered voter in the state; not a candidate or election inspector; challengers must carry an identification card; a political party, organization, or organized entity of interested citizens may designate no more than two people per precinct at any one time.

WCDP Poll Greeter Card Distribution Event
Poll greeters will distribute a slate card to voters as they enter the polling area. The cards are small enough to be taken into the voting booth for easy reference and they are especially useful for those all-so-important supreme court/judicial races.
Please come and pick up poll greeter cards to be distributed at polling sites around Washtenaw County and get your assignments. This was incredibly popular in 2016 and we hope to expand it by reaching even MORE voters this year. Washtenaw County Learning Resource Center,
