E-Digest for January 2022
January 26, 2022 is a Bell Let's Talk Day, an annual event that encourages a national conversation about mental health. This edition of the e-Digest connects you to mental health resources and supports.
Improving Mental Health
When it comes to our physical health, we all have strategies to stay healthy. We might take the stairs instead of the elevator, eat more veggies, or wear sunscreen to protect our skin. Safeguarding our mental health is just as important. Unfortunately, many of us do not consciously make an effort to stay mentally healthy. Mental health means feeling good about who you are, having balance in your life and in your thinking, and responding constructively to life’s highs and lows. Go to the Canadian Mental Health Association website to learn what you can do to protect and improve your mental health.
How to Help Someone with Anxiety
Anxiety is a reaction to a stressful event or situation. It can come about when something triggers fear within ourselves, even daily stresses such as an increased workload, an argument with a coworker, spouse, or friend.
If you have someone in your life who is struggling with anxiety, helping them feel safe and calm can be a hard task. Go to the Declutter The Mind website to learn about the signs of anxiety and how to help someone who may be exhibiting these signs. Visit the Anxiety Canada website to learn about anxiety in children and anxiety in youth.
Lancers Care Week
As part of Bell Let's Talk, the Student Health, Counselling and Wellness Services will be launching the Lancers Care Onward Together: Connecting and Coping through Uncertainty and Change, a week-long virtual campaign focused on the needs of our campus community in relation to pandemic mental health and starting the conversation around coping and adjusting to our return to campus. Everyone is invited to join and explore how we can best support ourselves and each other while we continue to navigate the ongoing impact of the pandemic. To learn more about the Lancer Care initiative, follow @UWindsorWellness on Instagram or visit Lancers Care Week 2022 website.

If you know a student who may be going through a difficult time, visit the Student Health, Counselling and Wellness Services website to access a variety of wellness resources.
Employee Mental Health Resources
Mental health is more than the absence of mental illness. It is about realizing our full potential, coping with the normal stresses of life and making a contribution to our community (CMHA.ca). Visit the Employee Mental Health Resources website for resources to support positive mental health including supports available through the Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP).
