E-Digest for June 2021
Personal Insect Repellents
Personal insect repellent (also called bug spray) can help protect you from insect bites. There are many products on the market but only those that have been government approved for their safety and effectiveness are allowed for use in Canada. Protection from biting insects like mosquitoes, fleas, ticks and blackflies is important because insect bites can cause itchiness, irritation, and
potentially serious diseases. To learn more about the different types of repellents, how to select the best one and how to use it safely, go to the Health Canada website.
Barbeque Safety
Barbequing is one of the most loved activities all year-round and especially when the weather starts to get warm. It is a great way to grill some meat, fish, vegetables and even fruit (think grilled fruit kabobs!). Go to the Health Canada website to learn about barbecue safety tips, common barbecue fuels and more. Download the Barbeque Safety Fact Sheet prepared by the Canadian Propane Association for some barbeque Do's and Don'ts.
Be Safe While Camping
Under Step One of Ontario's Roadmap to Reopen, Ontario parks are opening up their campgrounds to new and seasoned campers. If you are considering heading out to the great outdoors, visit the Camping in Ontario website for some tips to keep you and your family safe. If camping sounds fun but you are not ready to take that trip just yet, go to the Ontario Parks website for some ides on how you can camp from the comfort of your own home.

The committee invites students, staff, and faculty to review the draft Smoke-Free Campus Policy and provide feedback by June 28, using the anonymous online feedback form.
