Schedule a Meeting

Spring is when we launch our educational programs for the 2024. This year we have a number of courses on offer or in-development with other practitioners.

One of the unique things that K&C offers its clients and workshop participants is access to a broad network of experts that go beyond philanthropic advising.

We continue to offer learning opportunities for both advisors and families/individual donors. Our workshops sell out, so please make sure to register early so you don't miss the session.

New this year:

March 14th, 10am Mountain via Zoom

$50/family foundation or family office

Built to Last: The Pro's and Con's of Sunsetting a Family Foundation or Donor Advised Fund

This 90 minute workshop explores the pro’s and con’s of sunsetting a foundation or donor advised fund (DAF). Developed off of the K&C Whitepaper Beyond the Sunset: How not to Burden the Next Generation Once Things Have Gone Dark, is designed for family members who are considering what legacy looks like with and without the family foundation or DAF.

Also new this year are quarterly sessions for Advisors on working with philanthropy experts. The first session is on April 11th at 10am via Zoom.

We look forward to seeing you at one of our events either on Zoom or in-person. Click on the button below to see our most current offerings.

Stakeholder Time Horizons - How do they influence giving and impact?

They say "Timing is Everything." This is no more true than when establishing, managing, and in some cases winding down your funding cycle.

There are several stakeholders' time horizons at play when considering your grantmaking cycle: the needs of the charity, perhaps the external timing of public policy decisions on an issue area, the individual decision makers (family and work demands) as well as the granting cycle of the foundation or Donor Advised Fund itself.

We have put together a few posts on the perspectives of time when it comes your charitable activities:

Tools & Resources

Did you know that Karma & Cents' website has a wealth of resources to help you on your journey to Philanthropy 3.0, including guidance on charitable giving, social impact investing, and legacy planning? Each newsletter we will highlight some of these resources and where to find them.

We are often asked about the differences between a Donor Advised Fund, Community Foundation and Private Foundation. To help you out, we have created a simple comparison chart of these types of organizations.

What is Philanthropy For? - Book Review

In Rhodri Davies latest book, "What is Philanthropy For?" he dives into the tug and pull power dynamics of funders, fund-seekers and public policy creators.

Where does the power lie when wealth is concentrated at one end of the pyramid? Is philanthropy helping society or creating more divisions? Should we be changing how social capital is deployed in our communities? If so, what would that change look like?

This is an easy read albeit thought provoking in how it challenges some of the general assumptions about the role of philanthropy in today's society.

A must-read for board leaders and grantmakers, it provides an opportunity for deeper discussion at the grantmaking table and considerations on what effective philanthropy looks like.
