Hello World ARC 2027-28 skippers and crew,

A very warm welcome to World ARC 2027-28!

We’re absolutely delighted that you’ll be joining us for this extraordinary adventure around the World.

This is your first monthly rally update, so please take a few minutes to read through it carefully, note the important dates, and share the details with your crew. All registered skippers and crew will receive these emails - please don’t unsubscribe, as they contain important information to support your preparations.

In this update you’ll find:

  • Key dates
  • Safety equipment guidance
  • Yacht insurance tips
  • How to follow the 2026 fleet

Future monthly updates will include practical advice for boat and crew, destination insights, and programme news as your start date draws closer.

While the rally may feel a long way off, there is plenty to organise. These updates are designed to provide helpful guidance and timely reminders to keep your plans on track.

You’ll also find more information on our website. A PDF version of the Rally Handbook is available here, and printed copies will be sent to all boats in the coming weeks.

To give you a sense of what lies ahead, here’s a skipper's reflection from one of the boats from the 2025–26 fleet, who have just completed their circumnavigation:

“Completing the World ARC has been the biggest, hardest, most audacious, challenging, fun and growth-inducing adventure we have ever undertaken - as individuals and as a family. And we wouldn’t change a thing!
Rather than list favourite destinations or passages, what stands out most is the difference between who we were when we started and who we are now. I don’t think many people realise that this is far more than a sailing rally. The World ARC is endurance travel, a sailing bootcamp and a personal growth marathon rolled into one. And I do not exaggerate when I say that we are far better sailors, problem-solvers, leaders, friends and teammates because of it.”
— Pure Joy

A wonderful reflection that captures how the World ARC is far more than a sailing rally — it’s a life-changing journey that builds skills, friendships, and memories that last a lifetime.

We hope your preparations are going well, and if you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’re here to help every step of the way.

Safety Equipment

Please read the safety equipment pages in the Rally Handbook (on the Members Area) to ensure you have the right equipment - and know how to use it!

Every boat will have an in-person safety equipment inspection in Saint Lucia (or where they join the Rally), and to help ensure your preparations are on track and you have the right equipment, we will offer virtual safety equipment inspections via WhatsApp later in the summer.

There will be details of how to book a virtual inspection in a future update email.

If you have recently completed one of our rallies, please take the time to read the checklist to ensure that you are up-to-date.

Yacht Insurance Tips

All owners must ensure that they have suitable insurance cover for the duration of the Rally, and that insurance certificates are uploaded to their Members Area

Admiral Marine have helped us with some useful yacht insurance reminders:

Read the Policy

Your yacht may have been insured with the same company for several years. However, the policy wording and clauses may not be relevant to your round-the-world plans. Talk to your insurer.

Cruising Area

Ensure that your insurance company is aware of the areas you will be sailing through during World ARC. If necessary, provide them with a copy of the itinerary.

Exclusions

Be clear about what your insurer requires of you, and understand the exclusions that apply. These might include the number of crew on ocean passages, minimum qualifications for crew, attempting landfall at night, maximum permitted time the boat can be left unattended at anchor, restrictions on single-handed sailing and requirements for leaving the boat unattended afloat or ashore.

Rally or Race

Some insurance companies may treat World ARC as a racing event rather than a rally. Whilst there are official starts and finishes, the emphasis is on friendly competitive fun. This shouldn't affect your premiums, but the insurer should be aware so the underwriter doesn't treat the event as a race.

Australian Marinas

A AU$10 million public liability is standard throughout Australia, including Mackay Marina and Tipperary Waters and Cullen Bay marinas in Darwin. Check that this cover is included or can be added.

Renewal Procedures

If you have a standard 12 month policy, think ahead to where you expect to be at renewal time. Plan to renew when you know you have good communications, and check your insurer knows that you might have limited connectivity at sea.

Piracy

While it is unlikely that piracy, civil disturbance and terrorism will be an issue on World ARC, it is reassuring to know you are covered.

Policy Excess and Claims

Policy excesses may vary by location of the claim. Check the small print! Print a copy of the full policy including claim forms and contact details so you have everything to hand should you have to make a claim.
