A Note from Founder, Lisa Orloff
December is here and with that, we are about to close the chapter on 2020. This year was certainly unexpected and challenging for all of us but I am ready to move into 2021, with a renewed sense of resiliency and vigor.

I would also like to celebrate the many achievements which World Cares has had this year. We have trained over 1000 Ready Responders through our Disaster Volunteerism Academy. We also distributed over 30,000 N95 respirators, coveralls, and gloves from its own supplies to those on the front lines.

I would be remiss, however, if I did not take a moment to honor and recognize all those who have lost their lives to COVID-19, including some of my family members and friends.

In our December newsletter, you will read about tips to stay safe this holiday season, COVID-19 updates, and what World Cares Center has been up to this month.

Wishing you all a happy new year! Stay safe and be well.

Lisa
Holiday COVID-19 Safety Tips

  • Remember the three W's: Wear a mask, wash your hands, watch your distance
  • If possible, limit gatherings to those in your immediate household or try hosting a virtual celebration with extended family
  • Remember that people without symptoms or with a recent negative test result can still spread COVID-19 to others.
  • Take World Cares Center's General Readiness: Reduce the Risk training
Donate to World Cares Today!
Thank you to everyone who donated to our 2020 Giving Tuesday campaign, it wouldn't have been a success without supporters like you. If you missed Giving Tuesday, you can still donate today and support World Cares Center's programs in 2021.
COVID-19 Update
COVID-19 cases are on the rise again across the United States. Find a free COVID-19 testing site in your borough, through NYC Health and Hospitals, here.

If you are planning on traveling for the holidays, please make sure you are aware of any state, local, territorial, or tribal health and safety laws, rules, and regulations.
Disaster Volunteerism Academy Highlight
World Cares Center has recently updated our Disaster Volunteerism Academy website, which includes over 30 trainings on various disaster readiness, preparedness, and response topics. Some of our updated trainings include:
Community Needs Survey
World Cares Center is currently conducting a community needs survey. We need local community leaders, like you, to partner with us in identifying the gaps in services and training associated with disaster preparedness and response that may be affecting your community now or in the future.
World Cares Center January Trainings
In January, World Cares Center is focusing our trainings on navigating the new normal of COVID-19. Throughout the month, our content and trainings will feature updates on COVID-19 and how disaster volunteer managers can navigate these changes. Space is limited, so do not miss your opportunity to sign up! You can also become a Ready Responder here.
