December Updates From The Chromosome 18 Clinical Research Center

Updates from the Chromosome 18 Clinical Research Center:


  • The UT San Antonio Neurodevelopmental Disorders Consortium has launched and the Clinical Research Center is honored to be a part of this exciting new collaboration looking to fund new research efforts.
  • This month, Dr. Karkar presented seizure data for each of the chromosome 18 conditions at the American Epilepsy Society Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.
  • A new online medication survey will begin to be distributed to research study participants according to the affected person's birth month
  • Some of the projects currently underway at the Research Center include: applying AI to extract data from medical records, bone density study for people with Tetrasomy 18p, creating an 18q- mouse model for drug testing, and creating a cell-based assay for drug screening.

This month, the Clinical Research Center shares video recordings from World Chromosome 18 Day 2025 with staff and collaborators including a Research Update w/ Dr. Cody, Web App update with Dr. Gelfond, and an Endocrinology Presentation w/ Dr. Hale.
