🥃 We are recognizing that #NationalBootleggersDay happened earlier this week by featuring some of the fun places here in Cabarrus County that give a nod to the Prohibition era and the fine art of distilling fine spirits.

  • NASCAR has its roots in Bootlegging and the public can now enjoy the Speedway Club for dinner or race-themed drinks in the lounge while indulging in the incredible views of the track.
  • The Cabarrus County Education Foundation’s fundraiser next month has a Speakeasy theme.
  • No one is closer to the bootlegging roots than Southern Grace Distilleries, creating award-winning liquor year after year right here in Mount Pleasant!
  • Next week’s issue will feature the hottest member-only Speakeasy around that you have to join!

♥️♠️ Vegas Comes to Cabarrus County ♦️♣️

Don't go all the way to Sin City to enjoy a classic Vegas experience.

And when we say classic, we mean old-school Vegas—complete with casino games, music, drinks, and hors d’oeuvres, all to benefit the Cabarrus County Education Foundation.

🎷 This year’s fundraising event, Game of Games: A Night at the Speakeasy, (Saturday, Feb 25th) transports you back in time for what’s sure to be the Most Swinging Soiree of the Season! You’re invited to dress semi-formal or don your best flapper dress or dapper vest and compete in the annual costume contest.

  • Speaking of games, this fun-filled soiree will feature Vegas-style tables (with tokens instead of actual money), including Blackjack, Poker, Craps, and Roulette.

🎟️ 🎟️ Individual tickets are available for purchase ($80), but why not invite some friends and grab a “Rat Pack for 4” ($300)? The pack includes entrance for four people, $20,000 play cash, 4 raffle tickets, great music, hors d'oeuvres, and 4 limited drink tickets for beer, wine, or nonalcoholic beverages.

🥃 Tour the Only Whiskey Prison in the U.S.

Southern Grace Distilleries is America’s only distillery that’s housed in a former prison. The compound originally opened in 1929 as Mount Pleasant Prison, where it remained in operation until it was shut down in 2011.

  • In 2014, North Carolina natives Leanne Powell and Thomas Thacker moved into the facility and founded Southern Grace Distilleries. In 2019, Leanne passed away, but the small staff that runs this company works hard every day to keep Leanne’s vision alive.

Meet Sebastian Correa, MASTER DISTILLER, PRODUCTION MANAGER

Sebastian is from Winston-Salem and is a graduate of Appalachian State University where he earned a BS in Fermentation Science. He loves the science of making good liquor and his favorite drink is a well-made Old Fashioned.

  • He said he loves working at Southern Grace because “it's pretty odd to work in a former prison and it never gets old!”
