With this Sunday's Bill Tunny Jr Figure 8 on our minds, the Ivy Tech Community College Indianapolis Speedrome� looks back at a few of the notable moments in his astounding career. September 6, 2003 was the day of crowning achievement. For 25 years, Bill Tunny Jr had climbed the mountain known as the World Figure 8� Championship Three Hour Endurance Race� only to come within a fingers grasp of the prestigious peak. His 25^th attempt was perfection as Bill romped to victory over George Sutton and Doug Greig. This was a well-respected win with his peers in the pit area as many knew just how much this meant to him. The race was made much more special as it was the first-time his eldest son Ben had driven in the World Figure 8� Championship. The 16-year-old came home in the 10^th position to make it a double celebration. The numerology was amazingly nice as Bill drove car #4 from the 4^th starting spot to finish 1^st completing 441 laps. He also won his qualifying race the previous evening. Tunny has 32 starts in the Three Hour Endurance Race� which is most all-time. His name appears near the top of all the major statistical categories in the great event.

Figure 8 superstars are set to honor and give acknowledgment to one of the all-time greats this Sunday October 13th at the Ivy Tech Community College Indianapolis Speedrome�. That racer is the "Man with no Fear" Bill Tunny Jr. His driving brethren will salute the 2003 World Figure 8� Champion via competition in a 35-lap main event. Bill Tunny Jr is one of the most popular drivers in Speedrome history. As many know and some are learning now, Bill is in a tough battle with his toughest adversary, cancer. He is facing this foe with the same extreme tenacity as any on track, but medical costs are spiraling and this event came to fruition via many who wanted to help. This race joins an already packed Fall Festival Series card. In action will be the Advance Auto Sales Stocks, IndyAutoRecyclers.com Roadrunners, Hornet Oval & Figure 8, Circle City Pyrotechnics Junior Faskarts, Junior Hornets, Super Karts, and Legends. The show starts at 1:30pm.
