World Ocean Days Continue

We're Celebrating the Ocean

with Osgood School 2nd Graders

One would be hard pressed to find a happier person on the planet at the moment this photo was take; the joy of communing with nature leaps from the screen! Engaging students in our natural environment, providing them with opportunities to interact with our shoreline's life, and teaching them to handle organisms with care and respect is how we build ecosystem stewardship at CSCR.

Cohasset's Osgood School students examined invasive species such as the European Sea Squirt, an organism they identified in the lab under the educational leadership of CSCR intern, Sam Taylor. Charged with finding the invaders, Sam and his intern peers instructed the 2nd graders to put the invasives in jail and free the native species!

In addition to "jailing" invasive species in the lab, and surveying nekton in the salt marsh (trapping mummichogs, green crabs, grass shrimp, and an American Eel), Osgood students took on the engineering challenge of making a rock float!

"Make a rock float" engineering designs were ingenious, and boisterously celebratory-- especially when a team succeeded in supporting 31 rocks! Chants of "Thirty-one, thirty-one" were heard throughout our campus.

Codman Academy Honors CSCR's Collaboration

With surprise, delight, and appreciation, CSCR received the heart-warming notice that we would be recgonized at Codman Academy's graduation as the 2024 recipient of the "Good Neighbor" Award. CSCR's Jack Buckley happily accepted the award from Codman's Nick Lee, the AP Environmental Science teacher who has passionately pursued outdoor, community-based learning opportunities for his students. Thank you, Codman Academy students, for your fun, thoughtful, and productive engagement with us; thank you, Codman staff and admin, for supporting and growing our collaboration.

We look forward to continued collaboration with Codman teacher Ed Yoo who will be traveling to CSCR this summer with students pictured above.
