Strangely, it was the world's greatest Karate master who changed my Tai Chi, my life, and the unique approach I have developed to expanding Tai Chi to the masses.

I had the great honor and privilege of studying under Sensei Fumio Demura who is arguably the greatest Karate master in human history (see below documentary trailer on Sensei Demura's amazing journey).

Sensei Demura changed my Tai Chi journey for the rest of my life when he told me, "The power of your punch is not determined by your muscular mass or strength, or how big you are, or how hard you train. It is determined by how relaxed you are between your fist cocked position and the completion of your punch."  This caused me to understand the true power of Tai Chi, not just as a martial art, but as a "way of life," as it above all other arts teaches us how to relax through the challenges of our tumultuous constantly changing lives. In a world changing as fast as ours it, this puts Tai Chi into a category that the entire planet really needs to have access to.

The Real Myagi, a documentary on the greatest Karate master in human history
Sensei Fumio Demura

Today, I teach Tai Chi as a profound stress management tool that is seeing amazing results in not only hospital settings, but in major corporations, public schools, and all levels of society, including in prisons. I eventually gave up Karate and moved totally into Tai Chi because I realized that Tai Chi's highest gift is its ability to teach us "how to relax" into our lives, and the medical research shows how profoundly this affects us.

Sensei Demura, unwittingly was the catalyst for my honing a wholly unique approach to Tai Chi and Qigong ... focusing almost completely on Tai Chi's aspect of "letting go." A unique combination of Sitting Meditation, Moving Qigong Meditation, and Tai Chi as a Mind-Body Meditation. And as you'll see in this video it is having a profound effect on the nearly 200 weekly students I teach.

That is what this possible video instructional project I've been offering is about ... if you want to be updated as this video instructional project develops, email me at with "video instructional project" in the subj. line.

BUT YOU SHOULD ALSO KNOW, that David is one of the greatest Tai Chi champions in the world, and has won numerous Tai Chi championships.

Although he was not a Tai Chi master, but rather the most famous Karate master in the world (Karate Kid film, etc.), Grandmaster Fumio Demura was a man I had the great honor and privilege of studying Karate under. And Sensei Demura taught me something that profoundly changed my study and practice, and later teaching, of Tai Chi ... when he told me, "The power of your punch is not determined by your muscular mass or strength, or how big you are, or how hard you train. It is determined by  how relaxed you are between your fist cocked position and the completion of your punch ." This was echoed in a way by Bruce Lee who also studied under Master Demura. Bruce Lee said, "Learn your art, and then forget everything you have learned so that a raw unbridled flow can pass through you."

And there were a few who massively enabled my Tai Chi journey, and my ability to teach it to the mass public ... and to found this global event to help other teachers expand their teaching ... even though I never actually had the pleasure of meeting them ...
Lao Tzu, Walt Whitman, Rumi, Alan Watts, Fritjof Capra, Dr. Deepak Chopra, Yogananda,
Dr. Andrew Weil, Bruce Lipton, Richard Bach, Dr. Herbert Benson, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, and Albert Einstein

Apologies to the many more Tai Chi & Qigong experts and mind-body masters who have touched my Tai Chi journey in huge ways ... this is only a small sampling of those who have.

World Tai Chi & Qigong Day has worked for 17 years to bring the world together for health & healing.

From one event in Kansas City, 100s of events sprang up in over 80 nations.

Our motto: "One World ... One Breath"

How T'ai Chi can help with chronic health issues

To all those who have supported our global efforts, a deep thank you.
