Meditation Moment

From the Pastor ....

"Be still and know that I am God."
(Psalm 46:10)

In this Bible verse, "be still," can also be translated as "let go." During this Lenten season, we've "let go," of a daily rhythm we once knew. Overnight, the world drastically changed. In this global pause, we all find ourselves in a new space. For many, this is a time of heightened anxiety and uncertainty. Parents suddenly discover multiple roles of educator and school cafeteria worker while managing to work remotely. Senior citizens may find themselves especially vulnerable and wondering how to find groceries. COVID-19 is impacting global economics, health care and a sense of personal well-being.

The second part of this verse is a comfort: "know that I am God." While there is certainly fear and danger; a great opportunity also emerges. This new reality may draw us closer to Christ, our healer. Jesus holds great power to heal not only our physical struggles, but emotional and spiritual pain as well. I love this poem that addresses the deep potential for transformation in humanity. While this isn't how we envisioned life to be, we do have a God that is ever-present with us, our refuge and our strength.

As we find ourselves in this new space, be reassured that your OSLC staff is still working hard to offer reassurance, worship and multiple programs and resources for you. An official pastoral letter is being sent to you this week detailing how we are here for you in this pandemic. To view this letter now, please click HERE.

May this season transform all of us. May we emerge from this stillness a new creation--kind and more compassionate. May you trust that Christ is with us always.

Peace be the journey,

Pastor Karna

Growing Vegetables to help the Environment
Growing vegetables in your garden helps reduce your dependence on food that is trucked from long distance locations. Removing this shipping from the food supply chain reduces carbon-dioxide emissions that affect our climate. Buying produce from local farms also helps.

For a successful Zoom video or audio call:
  1. Put your computer or screen on a stable surface like a table or a desk.  When you move your computer around it is disorienting to other people.
  2. If there is background noise, please mute your computer.  When you are making noise, the computer highlights you, even if you are not speaking.  The microphones / speakers also seem to amplify background noise which overshadows the person who is talking.
  3. There is a slight delay between when you say something and when others hear it, so it can be a little easier to talk over someone.  I found it easier to avoid this by putting my screen on Gallery View.  Then it shows everyone who is on the call in little pictures and makes it a little easier (my preference).
OSLC Pen Pals

As we continue to find ways to connect during this time, a list of our members who are 70 and older has been given to our children. The children can sign up to send a card or note to someone on the list in hopes of brightening their day.
