Meditation Moment

From the Pastor ....

"Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth."
(Genesis 9:16)

As April showers bring May flowers; another phrase I've heard is: "April distance brings May existence." While sheltering at home, it's easy to feel isolated. Despite physical distance, there is a growing emotional closeness happening. On a daily basis, Brian and I are calling our parents to check-in. Technology keeps many connected via zoom, phone calls, letters, and social media.

God is also reaching out to us. On Sunday evening, a rainbow appeared in the Stillwater sky. Rainbows appear so unexpectedly and often occur when I feel discouraged. Many felt this Divine reassurance on Sunday as my Facebook feed included a half dozen photos of the rainbow covering Stillwater. I was so deeply encouraged by this reminder that God is holding all of us closely and watching over creation. Our Savior's was established as a congregation in the 1800's. As the first city of Minnesota, Stillwater lived through the Spanish influenza of 1918. We will weather this storm of COVID-19 too. God is faithful, gracious, and reminding us of an enduring love that will never let us go. Thanks be to God!

Faithfully,

Pastor Karna

Care of Creation Tip
In gratitude, caring for God's Air, Water, and Land

This Little Light of Mine . . . Makes a Difference
Our electricity is generated at a cost to the environment, especially air pollution from coal-fired electric power plants. We don't want you to hide your light under a bushel, no . . . but we do want you to turn off unneeded lights when you leave a room to reduce electricity use. You can be a light unto the world, without leaving one on.

A lot of "just one persons" working together can accomplish mighty things. ~ A message from your OSLC Care of Creation team.

Rachel's Day

This Sunday, May 3, the women of Our Savior's will place a white rose on the altar to remember Rachel's Day, a day to remind us always to pray for the children affected by violence.  Rachel's Day is based on Jeremiah 31:15-17 where Rachel grieved for her children.  Violence, as well as other factors that contribute to the death of children, is found in a child's life in so many ways in today's world - gun violence, drugs, abuse, neglect, poor education, health and hunger.  And so on Sunday we will lift up the children in prayer!
Virtual Guatemala Gala

Date: Sunday, May 3 - 7:00 p.m. | online
The Guatemala Committee of the Saint Paul Area Synod is holding its annual Guatemala Gala online this year to raise funds to help the Iglesia Luterana Agustina de Guatemala (ILAG) pay off a loan for the purchase and renovation of a new school building. During this global pandemic, the ILAG is also in need of food and supplies for families that are isolated in rural villages.

Join online from your dining room table, sofa or patio to hear about our synod companion partnership, about the school and its impact, as well as updates from ILAG representatives and leaders in our own synod. Here's how to participate:
Your participation is welcome, whether or not you are able to give. Rev. Steve Thomason (Easter Lutheran, Eagan) will serve as the emcee. We invite you to dress in bright Guatemalan colors, prepare a Guatemalan meal (recipes from Chef Amalia Moreno-Damgaard) and make it an event for your household!
Church Building

As staff work from their homes in response to the "stay at home" orders, the church building will remain locked at all times. Please know that we have a locked mailbox in the circle round in the west parking lot for those wishing to drop off rather than mail your contributions. Please feel free to just place them in the mailbox and they will be picked up regularly.

We look forward to the time when we can all meet together again at the church. For now, please be sure to join us for virtual worship on Wednesdays at 6:30 pm & Sundays at 9:00 am.
