Meditation Moment

From the Pastor ....

"For surely I know the plans I have for you."
(Jeremiah 29:11)

On Sunday morning, a friend texted me and said, "Karna, I had a dream last night that we were past the pandemic. I was visiting you at your church. Everyone was so happy, the church was packed and the congregation was filled with joy." This encouraging word from my friend reminded me it is so vital to recognize God has a hope and a future for us.

Last night I dreamt that an IHOP and a Starbucks coffee was being built a couple blocks away from my house. Instead, I awoke to leftover homemade cinnamon rolls and Keurig Starbucks coffee. Perhaps I was simply craving breakfast. Dreams again, reminded me that there is a future, yet unknown, but filled with promise.

With the stay at home order, Brian and I are settling into opening up more boxes and putting art on our walls. I've always loved this quote from God's word. Jeremiah's nickname was the "weeping prophet." He also wrote Lamentations. His life was filled with sorrow and exile. Yet, it is in this state of grief that God inspired within him the promise of a hopeful future.

I fully believe that God does have great plans for Our Savior's. We worship a God full of love and compassion. While it is unknown when we will see each other face to face, we remain spiritually and emotionally close. It is truly a joy to serve here at OSLC. Know that I hold you in my prayers. God has a hopeful future for us. God is also with us in this present moment of uncertainty and sorrow. May you sense the presence of Jesus with you today and always!

Faithfully,

Care of Creation Tip
In gratitude, caring for God's Air, Water, and Land

Take a Powder
Think about the environmental consequences of liquid laundry detergent. As with many products, the plastic container uses petroleum products and is most often not recycled. There are also the air pollution emissions from transporting the product to the stores and your home. You can eliminate several environmental effects by switching to a paperboard box of powdered detergent. The paperboard is made from a renewable tree resource that is more readily recycled. Air pollution from shipping is greatly reduced because the product is more compact and weighs less without the water content. Detergent for more loads of laundry can be delivered in fewer truckloads. Most popular brands are available in powder form, and if you want the convenience of liquid detergent, just save your last plastic container and premix the powder with water before laundry day. You'll be helping clean up the environment while you clean your clothes.

A lot of "just one persons" working together can accomplish mighty things. ~ A message from your OSLC Care of Creation team.

Mission Jamaica

Mission Jamaica Update

I spoke with Mission Jamaica director, Jeff Peterson, last week and he shared the following news.

He returned to MN March 23 on a plane that arrived with no other passengers. The country's borders had closed down and this was to be one of the last planes to leave. In a country that relies on tourists for their main income, all resorts are closed down.

The area of the country is about the size of Minnesota. Last count was 305 cases of Covid 19 with 5 deaths. If one person in a community is diagnosed, the entire community is put in strict quarantine with military presence. Curfews are in place everywhere from 6 pm to 6 am. Violations against quarantine or curfews can result in a fine of up to $10,000!

Most cases of Covid 19 are on the east side of the island (Kingston). The areas we (OSLC) have gone to are more on the west side. The boys at Clifton are getting bored and restless. Their new home is almost finished and much of it is ready for painting.

The staff at Westhaven has been reorganized so there is less chance of the virus being introduced. An individual stays on site for a week at a time, covering all 3 shifts everyday and then has 3 weeks off. So far all residents are staying healthy.

I will let everyone know if I receive more news. ~ Mary Anderson
