Meditation Moment
From the Pastor ....
"Behold! I make all things new."
(Isaiah 43:19
Last Friday I was blessed to sing and play my guitar in concert with my pastor friend Siri. She is a singer/songwriter and an accomplished pianist. One of my favorite pieces she wrote is called, "Re-birth Me." This is a song about renewal, hope and God's ability to make all things new. The first time we ever performed this song together, was 8 years ago. At that time, both of us were experiencing pain in our personal lives. Little did I realize that later that Spring in 2012, I would meet my mate, Brian. Now my friend Siri is also in a new stage of life as she got married last month. This link is a recording of our performance of this song 8 years ago.
Rebirth Me by SiriAnna
Rebirth Me by SiriAnna
Some seasons in life can be difficult. Sometimes pain can overwhelm, and we may find ourselves blinded by the tears washing over our face. Grief is real. God also has great power to transform, heal and renew. Whatever season you find yourself in, whether the winter or a new spring, we are assured that God walks with us - always ! I also see renewal here at OSLC! God is so very faithful and good. We have a bright present and future together. God walks with us each day. May you sense the loving hands of Jesus hold you now and always. You are loved. God bless.

Travel and Climate Change
In gratitude, caring for God's Air, Water, and Land
Most of our travel creates greenhouse gases that add to climate change.  Air travel creates the most carbon dioxide, and the amount decreases in order for cars, carpools, and mass transit (buses, trains, light rail).  Bicycling, skiing, snow shoeing, and walking create no carbon dioxide.

You may be surprised that your computer is another transportation mode that creates very little carbon dioxide (from the electricity it uses).  We often travel to see loved ones.  Using a tablet, smart phone, or computer, you can have face-to-face conversations with distant friends and relatives.  You can attend a grandchild's birthday party or talk to a distant college student.  This approach virtually eliminates greenhouse gases from your "travel," and you can visit more often.
A lot of "just one persons" working together can accomplish mighty things. ~ A message from your OSLC Care of Creation team.

Thyme for Grace Meals
Thyme for Grace is a food ministry for those in our congregation and community who could use a good home-cooked meal and a bit of extra care. There are currently nine packages with servings for 4 in the Kitchen freezer that are looking for a home; and one package with a serving for 2. Please remember to share with others that you know who would enjoy a bit of extra care.

Gratitude Containers
In 2019 the Gratitude Containers collected $710 which was sent to Lutheran Disaster Response to help the many people who have been affected by so many natural disasters. The Gratitude containers will once again be handed out on February 9th and 16th. Those who participate drop a coin in their container when they feel gratitude for the events in their own lives with the purpose of helping those who have been less fortunate. The containers filled with coins are then collected in November. Be sure to pick up a container!

OSLC Missions

Mission Jamaica
Mary Anderson will be leaving on the Mission Jamaica trip on March 14. OSLC is asked to provide the following items for the Trip: 80 large bars of soap and 80 large tubes of toothpaste. Both of these items can be purchased at the dollar store. There will be bags for collecting these in the gathering area beginning Sunday, January 26 through Sunday, March 8.

The Mission Jamaica Team is also purchasing broiler chicks for WestHaven Orphanage with donation dollars. Around 100 broiler chicks are purchased each month and are butchered every 6 weeks. These chicks are raised at WestHaven in the Mission Jamaica built Chicken Coop and provide protein to the residents of WestHaven. Cost per chick is $5 and includes the cost of feed. Please consider supporting this effort. Checks can be made out to OSLC with Mission Jamaica in the memo line and placed in the offering plate or drop box on the Welcome Desk.
