The Protest... Peace-filled

The protest in downtown Lake Forest this week was peace-filled and powerful. The young organizers and the City of Lake Forest did an excellent job in managing an event that had the potential of becoming something other than it was intended to be. Sadly, local businesses sensing the very real possibility of property damage had to bear the expense of boarding up windows and doors. While MUCH WORK needs to be done to change race relations in America, the Mayor of Waukegan in addressing the crowd made a very important point. "Just the fact that a black man from Waukegan is standing in downtown Lake Forest talking to a few hundred people about race relations shows we are making progress." Amen, and here's to continued forward movement. - TD
