Hymn of Invocation – Great Is Thy Faithfulness, LSB 809
Great is thy faithfulness, O God, my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with thee.
Thou changest not: Thy compassions, they fail not;
As thou hast been, Thou forever wilt be.
Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon, and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love.
Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine with ten thousand beside!
Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Invocation
P: +In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit.
C: + Amen.
Opening Sentences – Isaiah 42:5–7
P: +Thus says God, the L ORD, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and what comes from it,
C: + who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk in it:
P: +“I am the L ORD; I have called you in righteousness; I will take you by the hand and keep you; I will give you as a covenant for the people, a light for the nations,
C: + to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness.”
Confession and Absolution – Joel 2:13; Isaiah 42:16
P: +In the darkness of the world around us and amid our own blindness to His will and ways, God calls us to confess our sins.
C: + Return to the L ORD , your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love.

Silence for reflection and self-examination

P: +God of God, Light of light,
C: + we confess that by nature we are sinful and unclean, born in darkness. We are often blind to Your Word and Your work in our lives, sinning against You and against one another in thought, word, and deed. For the sake of Jesus, who is the light of the world, forgive me all my sins, that my eyes may be opened and my heart enlightened to look to You in faith and hope.
P: +“And I will lead the blind in a way that they do not know, in paths that they have not known I will guide them. I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground. These are the things I do, and I do not forsake them.” Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. Through His death on the cross, Jesus Christ has shined His eternal light of forgiveness, peace, and life on you. In the stead and by the command of our Lord Jesus Christ as a called and ordained servant of the Word, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit.
C: + Amen.
+ Word +
Salutation and Collect of the Day
P: +The Lord be with you.
C: + And also with you.
P: +Let us pray. Almighty God, our heavenly Father, Your mercies are new every morning; and though we deserve only punishment, You receive us as Your children and provide for all our needs of body and soul. Grant that we may heartily acknowledge Your merciful goodness, give thanks for all Your benefits, and serve You in willing obedience; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
C: + Amen.
Old Testament Reading – Isaiah 42:14–21
+For a long time I have held my peace; I have kept still and restrained myself;
now I will cry out like a woman in labor; I will gasp and pant.
+I will lay waste mountains and hills, and dry up all their vegetation;
I will turn the rivers into islands, and dry up the pools.
And I will lead the blind in a way that they do not know,
+in paths that they have not known I will guide them.
 I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground.
+These are the things I do, and I do not forsake them.
They are turned back and utterly put to shame, who trust in carved idols,
+who say to metal images, “You are our gods.”
Hear, you deaf, and look, you blind, that you may see!
Who is blind but my servant, or deaf as my messenger whom I send?
+Who is blind as my dedicated one, or blind as the servant of the L ORD?
He sees many things, but does not observe them;
+his ears are open, but he does not hear.
The L ORD was pleased, for his righteousness’ sake,
+to magnify his law and make it glorious.

P: +This is the Word of the Lord.
C: + Thanks be to God.
Epistle – Ephesians 5:8-14
+for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light. +Therefore it says, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

P: +This is the Word of the Lord.
C: +Thanks be to God.
Holy Gospel – Luke 18:1-8
P: +The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the eighteenth chapter.
C: +Glory to You, O Lord.

+And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected man. And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’ For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect man, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.’” And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge says. And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”

P: +This is the Gospel of the Lord.
C: + Praise to You, O Christ.
Children’s Song – Jesus Loves Me, LSB 588
Jesus loves me! This I know, for the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong; they are weak, but He is strong.
Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me! He who died Heaven’s gates to open wide.
He has washed away my sin, lets His little child come in.
Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.
Children’s Message
Hymn of the Day – I Am Forever Who I Am
Though mountains slide into the sea,
And waters rush where fields should be,
Though monuments and nations fall,
Your holy city stands through all.
When nothing seems to stay the same,
You teach us your eternal name.
I AM forever WHO I AM. Above you, beneath you,
Around you and within you. Be still and know that I AM God.

We buy and sell, we lose or gain;
Our fortunes shift like sun and rain.
Sustain our lives, reward our toil
With bread and honey, wine and oil.
Save us and others from our greed;
You always give us what we need.
I AM forever WHO I AM. Above you, beneath you,
Around you and within you. Be still and know that I AM God.

Each generation looks for truth,
And doubt can trouble age or youth.
If other gods would take your place
Remember us with love and grace.
Reclaim us if we go astray;
You are the Truth, the Life, the Way.
I AM forever WHO I AM. Above you, beneath you,
Around you and within you. Be still and know that I AM God.

Some days seem long, though life is brief,
And death is waiting like a thief.
When vision fades and dreams go dry,
We will on unseen things rely.
Our stories take up but a page,
But yours goes on from ages to age.
I AM forever WHO I AM. Above you, beneath you,
Around you and within you. Be still and know that I AM God.
Sermon
Apostles' Creed
C: + I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
+ And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
+ I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Offertory – If You Are Near
+ Sacrament +
Preface
P: +The Lord be with you.
C: + And also with you.
P: +Lift up your hearts.
C: + We lift them to the Lord.
P: +Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
C: + It is right to give Him thanks and praise.
P: +It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who overcame the assaults of the devil and gave His life as a ransom for many that with cleansed hearts we might be prepared joyfully to celebrate the paschal feast in sincerity and truth. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying:
Sanctus – LSB 161
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of pow’r and might:
Heaven and earth are full of Your glory.
Hosanna, Hossanna. Hossanna in the highest.
Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosannah in the highest.
Prayer of Thanksgiving
P: +Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on those whom You created and sent Your only-begotten Son into our flesh to bear our sin and be our Savior. With repentant joy we receive the salvation accomplished for us by the all-availing sacrifice of His body and His blood on the cross. Gathered in the name and the remembrance of Jesus, we beg You, O Lord, to forgive, renew, and strengthen us with Your Word and Spirit. Grant us faithfully to eat His body and drink His blood as He bids us do in His own testament. Gather us together, we pray, from the ends of the earth to celebrate with all the faithful the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom, which has no end. Graciously receive our prayers; deliver and preserve us. To You alone, O Father, be all glory, honor, and worship, with the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
C: + Amen.
The Words of Our Lord
P: +Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: “Take, eat; this is My + body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me.” In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: “Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My + blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”
Proclamation of Christ
P: +As often as we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.
C: + Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
P: +O Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, in giving us Your body and blood to eat and to drink, You lead us to remember and confess Your holy cross and passion, Your blessed death, Your rest in the tomb, Your resurrection from the dead, Your ascension into heaven, and Your coming for the final judgment. So remember us in Your kingdom and teach us to pray:
Lord’s Prayer
C: + Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Pax Domini
P: +The peace of the Lord be with you always.
C: + Amen.
Distribution
Distribution Hymn – Chief of Sinners, LSB 611
Chief of sinners though I be, Jesus shed His blood for me,
Died that I might live on high, lives that I might never die.
As the branch is to the vine, I am His, and He is mine.

Oh, the height of Jesus’ love, higher than the heav’ns above,
Deeper than the depths of sea, lasting as eternity!
Love that found me—wondrous thought! Found me when I sought Him not.

Only Jesus can impart balm to heal the wounded heart,
Peace that flows from sin forgiv’n, joy that lifts the soul to heav’n,
Faith and hope to walk with God in the way that Enoch trod.

Chief of sinners though I be, Christ is all in all to me;
All my wants to Him are known, all my sorrows are His own.
He sustains the hidden life safe with Him from earthly strife.

O my Savior, help afford by Your Spirit and Your Word!
When my wayward heart would stray, keep me in the narrow way;
Grace in time of need supply while I live and when I die.
Blessing
Post-Communion Thanksgiving
P: +Let us pray. We give thanks to You, almighty God, that You have refreshed us through this salutary gift, and we implore You that of Your mercy You would strengthen us through the same in faith toward You and fervent love toward one another; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
C: + Amen.
Benediction
P: +The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and + give you peace.
C: + Amen.
Closing Hymn – What a Friend We Have in Jesus, LSB 770
What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry ev’rything to God in prayer!
Oh, what peace we often forfeit; oh, what needless pain we bear—
All because we do not carry ev’rything to God in prayer!

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged—take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our ev’ry weakness—take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge—take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer.
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee; thou wilt find a solace there.
