Welcome & Announcements

Prelude

Andante - Louis J. A. Lefébure-Wély

Call to Worship

Psalm 19:1-4, 7-9, 14

One:

The heavens are telling the glory of God

and the firmament proclaims God’s handiwork!

Many:

Day to day pours forth speech,

and night to night declares knowledge.

One:

There is no speech, nor are there words; their voice is not heard

Many:

yet their voice goes out through all the earth,

and their words to the end of the world.

One:

The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul;

the decrees of the Lord are sure, making wise the simple;

Many:

the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;

the commandment of the Lord is clear, enlightening the eyes;

 One:

the fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever;

the ordinances of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.

Many:

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart

be acceptable to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

The Prayer of Confession

 (in unison)

a prayer of Ruth Etchells, adapted

O surging Spirit, mighty wind of God, blow through my heart today. Let me not fear your energy, but welcome it. Disperse all the stuff, the patterns of life I have come to rely on and take pleasure in for their own sake rather than as ways to praise you and serve you. Disturb my complacency, O God, the things I cling to for security instead of trusting in you.

O gentle Spirit, breathe on the face of the waters in those depths of my heart still unformed and in turmoil; in that deepest part of me shape your order and harmony and bring forth new life within me.

Forgive my sins and cleanse me so that I may rejoice anew in your creation and find glory in the wonder of other people’s loves. In the love and power of the Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit I pray. Amen.
