Pastoral - Herbert Sumsion

Welcome

Call to Worship

One:

God said, “Let light shine in the darkness!”

Many:

Lord, shine your light into our lives.

One:

We see the glory of God in the face of Christ.

Many:

The light of Christ is with us day by day.

One:

Let us follow the light of Christ together.

Many:

Let us worship God with thanks and praise.

Hymn

God Reigns! Let Earth Rejoice!

MARION

Prayer of Confession

Forgive us, God, when we linger too long by the waters, and on the mountain tops, enthralled with the glory that flows from you. When we fail to listen to your voice, leading and guiding us, shake us from our contentment, and send us forward endowed with your power. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon

One:

Friends, believe the Good News of the Gospel.

Many:

In Christ we are all forgiven.

Anthem

Christ upon the Mountain Peak - Paul Bouman

The Southminster Choir

Christ, upon the mountain peak stands alone in glory blazing; let us if we dare to speak, with the saints and angels praise him. Alleluia! Trembling at his feet we saw Moses and Elijah speaking. All the prophets and the law shout through them their joyful greeting. Alleluia! Swift the cloud of glory came, God proclaiming in its thunder Jesus as his Son by name! Nations, cry aloud in wonder. Alleluia! This is God's beloved Son! Law and prophets fade before him; first and last and only one, Let creation now adore him. Alleluia!

Sermon

With Malice toward None

Rev. Kent Winters-Hazelton

Our Response to the Word

Affirmation of Faith

from A Declaration of Faith

(in unison)

God sent the promised Deliverer to God’s people. Jesus, the long expected Savior, came into the world as a child, descended from David, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of Mary. He announced to his people the coming of God’s kingdom of justice and peace on earth.

Hymn

We Have Come at Christ's Own Bidding

BREWER

The Church at Prayer

The Lord be with you - And also with you.

The Lord's Prayer

(in unison)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth and it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil For Thine is the kingdom and power and the glory forever. Amen.
