ORDER OF WORSHIP

Gathering and Centering Ourselves for Worship

Welcome

Prelude

Voluntary in G - John Stanley

Call to Worship

One:

Jesus calls us

to praise and prayer,

to song and silence;

Many:

Jesus calls us to worship.

One:

Jesus calls us

to hearing and healing,

to service and solidarity;

Many:

Jesus calls us to love.

One:

Jesus calls us

to advocacy and action,

to protest and provision;

Many:

Jesus calls us to justice.

One:

Let us heed the call of Christ.

Many:

Let us worship together with joy.

GATHER US IN

The Prayer of Confession

in unison

On the bustling shores of Galilee, Jesus called Peter and Andrew, James and John, immediately they dropped their nets and set out with Jesus to fish for people.

Christ, you also call to us. But we are slow to set aside the mundane tasks that shape our lives and are slow to abandon the excuses we use to drown out your voice. Call us again, Lord Jesus, and summon us to lives of gracious service. Guide us to be faithful followers as we begin a new adventure in ministry. Strengthen us to respond with courage and compassion that we might proclaim the reign of God. In Christ’s name. Amen.

The Assurance of Forgiveness

One:

Friends, believe the Good News of the Gospel.

Many:

In Christ we are all forgiven.

Anthem

The Lord Is My Light - Dean C. Howard

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? One thing have I asked of the Lord, will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple. Wait on the Lord; and he shall strengthen thine heart.

The Church of Christ in Every Age

WAREHAM

Our Response to the Word

Affirmation of Faith

from The Confession of 1967

The church confesses its faith when it bears a present witness to God’s grace in Jesus Christ. In every age the church has expressed its witness in words and deeds as the need of the time required.

The Invitation to Discipleship and Life in the Church

The Church at Prayer

The Lord be with you. And also with you.

The Sharing of Joys and Concerns

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

The Lord’s Prayer

(in unison)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

The Prayer of Thanksgiving

(in unison)

Thank you, God, for the ministries of the people you called to service by the Galilean shore, and for those who have answered your command throughout the ages. We thank you for the bounty of your gifts given to us. Receive our gifts of thanksgiving. May they help carry out the ministries of this church to the world you have brought into being through your love. Amen.
