ORDER OF WORSHIP

Gathering and Centering Ourselves for Worship

Prelude

Call to Worship

One:

We trust God reigns forever and ever,

Many:

Even if we are uncertain of when it will be.

One:

Jesus’ reign of love and peace is coming,

All:

Let us prepare our hearts for his kingdom.

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession

(in unison)

Holy God, we say your kingdom is coming, but we confess we grow impatient. We wish the world was different than it is, and wonder when your peace and justice will show up. In our impatience, we grow anxious; we feel helpless; we give into fear. Soothe our weary spirits, strengthen our spines for the road ahead, and inspire us to live into the hope that your kingdom will come and is already emerging. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

(silence is kept)

Assurance of Forgiveness

One:

Friends, believe the Good News of the Gospel.

Many:

In Christ, we are forgiven.

When Goodness Reigns

Rev. Caroline Barnett

Our Response to the Word

Affirmation of Faith

from The Confession of 1967

(in unison)

Biblical visions and images of the rule of Christ, such as a heavenly city, a father’s house, a new heaven and earth, a marriage feast, and an unending day culminate in the image of the kingdom. The kingdom represents the triumph of God over all that resists God’s will and disrupts God’s creation. Already God’s reign is present as a ferment in the world, stirring hope in humans and preparing for the world to receive its ultimate judgment and redemption. With an urgency born of this hope, the church applies itself to present tasks and strive for a better world.

KING'S WESTON

Prayers of the People & The Lord's Prayer

(in unison)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth and it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil For Thine is the kingdom and power and the glory forever. Amen.
