ORDER OF WORSHIP

Gathering and Centering Ourselves for Worship

Prelude

What a Friend We Have in Jesus - arr. Larry Shackley

Call to Worship

One:

Our help is in the name of the Lord,

who made heaven and earth.

Many:

Our hope is in our redeemer,

whose grace is unending.

One:

The love of God draws us to this community!

Many:

The Spirit of the Lord is with us now!

Let us worship God together!

Hymn

When Morning Gilds the Skies

LAUDES DOMINI

Prayer of Confession

(in unison)

God, in your wisdom, you created us for connection with you and with one another. But we confess, we try to isolate ourselves. With judgment, we do not help our neighbors; and, because of pride, we hide our own needs from others. Change our ways, O God. Keep us praying for one another, forgiving each other, and working toward reconciliation so that we might all live in beloved community together. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

(the silence is kept)

Assurance of Forgiveness

One:

Friends, believe the good news of the Gospel.

Many:

In Christ, we are forgiven.

How to Pray

Rev. Caroline Barnett

Our Response to the Word

Affirmation of Faith

from The Confession of Belhar (South Africa, 1986)

(in unison)

We believe that Christ’s work of reconciliation is made manifest in the church as the community of believers who have been reconciled with God and with one another… This unity must become visible so that the world may believe that separation, enmity and hatred between people and groups is sin which Christ has already conquered… This unity of the people of God must be manifested and be active in a variety of ways; in that we love one another; that we experience, practice and pursue community with one another; that we are obligated to give ourselves willingly and joyfully to the benefit and blessing to one another.

Prayers of the People

The Lord's Prayer

(in unison)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth and it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil For Thine is the kingdom and power and the glory forever. Amen.
