“Great Faithfulness”
Rev. Hardy Kim
Join us this Wednesday for the
Modern Worship Collective Service at 6:30 pm!
Greetings!

Last week in worship we listened to the beginning of the story of Joseph. One thing that I highlighted (that we sometimes forget) is how filled with betrayal, hurt, and conflict his whole family history is. This is something that we can see reflected in the reality for many people in our world today. And, like Joseph, many of our young people grow up having to deal with legacies of conflict that are not of their own making.

So, how do we serve folks like this? How do we lift up people who are on the margins of dealing with disadvantages that they did nothing to deserve? As people who want to share God’s love with others, these are questions that are critical to our life of faith.
I hope you’ll join us for worship this week, as we think about what it means to be people of good faith who serve others who need God’s help.

In hope,
Hardy

Please join us immediately following the Sunday service for our Coffee Hour (in-person in Trinity Court or online via Zoom).

Theme for Sunday

Jesus of Nazareth, When you met the woman of Syrophenicia, you called her a little dog but that didn’t stop her. Little dogs need little crumbs, she said, and you listened, repented, and praised her for her words.

Questions for Reflection
  • Can you think of a person — or group — who deserves better than the world has given them? Think of someone or some group who is special to you.

  • What are the ways that you could imagine helping that person or group? What might it cost you to serve in that way? Are there things holding you back?
Matthew 15:21-28

Jesus left that place and went away to the district of Tyre and Sidon. Just then a Canaanite woman from that region came out and started shouting, “Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is tormented by a demon.” But he did not answer her at all. And his disciples came and urged him, saying, “Send her away, for she keeps shouting after us.” He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” But she came and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, help me.” He answered, “It is not fair to take the children’s food and throw it to the dogs." She said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.” Then Jesus answered her, “Woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.” And her daughter was healed instantly.
