“Christmas Songs”
Rev. Hardy Kim
Join us this Sunday for one of our two candlelight services at 5:00 PM & 8:30 PM!
Greetings!

This Advent season is almost over! And as we near the end, are we feeling like Christmas joy is going to fill our hearts? As we’ve already talked about in worship, it might be hard to really tap into joy in the midst of all sorts of hard things.

Still, if we’re going to feel joy this season, one of the things that can connect us to the Christmas spirit is the music that we hear and join in singing. The carols and hymns of this season can connect us to joy in truly special ways.

But what makes for a truly fitting Advent or Christmas carol? What makes it more than just a cheerful tune – how does it become a song that helps us experience the truth of God’s love coming into our world? Come join us in worship to sing a song or two, and to find out!

With Advent hope,
Hardy

P.S. – I hope you have seen the email to the community inviting you to join us for our Christmas Eve worship services later in the day. I can’t wait to celebrate that holy moment with you!

Please join us immediately following the service for our Coffee Hour
(in-person in Trinity Court or online via Zoom).

Theme for Sunday

The entire world thrills with hope on this night which gives to it a savior. People, on your knees, await your deliverance. Christmas! Christmas! Here is the Redeemer!

Questions for Reflection
  • What is your favorite Advent or Christmas carol? What makes it special to you?
Luke 1:46-55, 67-80

And Mary said,

“My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has looked with favor on the lowly state of his servant.
Surely from now on all generations will call me blessed,
for the Mighty One has done great things for me,
and holy is his name;
indeed, his mercy is for those who fear him
from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with his arm;
he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He has brought down the powerful from their thrones
and lifted up the lowly;
he has filled the hungry with good things
and sent the rich away empty.
He has come to the aid of his child Israel,
in remembrance of his mercy,
according to the promise he made to our ancestors,
to Abraham and to his descendants forever.”

Then his father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied:

“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,
for he has looked favorably on his people and redeemed them.
He has raised up a mighty savior for us
in the house of his child David,
as he spoke through the mouth of his holy prophets from of old,
that we would be saved from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us.
Thus he has shown the mercy promised to our ancestors
and has remembered his holy covenant,
the oath that he swore to our ancestor Abraham,
to grant us   that we, being rescued from the hands of our enemies,
might serve him without fear, in holiness and righteousness
in his presence all our days.
And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High,
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,
to give his people knowledge of salvation
by the forgiveness of their sins.
Because of the tender mercy of our God,
the dawn from on high will break upon us,
to shine upon those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the way of peace.”

The child grew and became strong in spirit, and he was in the wilderness until the day he appeared publicly to Israel.
