“The Sacred Timeline”

Greetings!

In case you’ve been wondering, superhero movies these days are all about bringing together as many different superheroes together as possible. Of course, this causes all sorts of plot holes because each character essentially inhabits their own different universe with different timelines, magic and even physics. The main resolution then is to heavily lean into the idea that there is a multiverse rather than a singular universe.

This week I’d like us to explore the idea that Christianity and even our own congregation is its own multiverse. We bring with us different histories and futures, different bodies, and even different theologies. How do we resolve all of these different plot holes? What does it mean to belong to a church that has twelve official statements of faith that were written in different places and times and don’t perfectly align? What does it mean to belong to a church where the interpretation of scripture is taken seriously, but not always literally? Join us this Sunday as we close out our Confirmation sermon series and faithfully ponder these questions!

Peace,
Rich

Please join us immediately following the Sunday service for our Coffee Hour (in-person in Trinity Court or online via Zoom).

Theme for Sunday

“With believers in every time and place we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen”

Questions for Reflection
  • In what ways has your own understanding about God, the Bible and the church changed over time? What remains the same?

  •  In what ways does your own life experiences create understandings about God and church that might contrast with those with very different life experiences?
