CARAVAN Sunday
Greetings!

Our CARAVAN Summer Youth Mission team has been hard at work in Oroville and Paradise, helping communities recover from the devastation and trauma of the Camp Fire that burned a whole city to the ground back in 2018. We’re grateful for the ongoing work of Presbyterian Disaster Assistance and its partners in the area, and awed that we get to be a part of God’s healing in the world.

The whole team is eager to share what we’ve seen and learned throughout the week — out the people whose lives were transformed by tragedy, about our own lives that have been touched by God’s grace. We hope that you’ll join us in worship to sing, pray, learn, and to hear stories about what God is doing in the world!

In Christ’s love,

Rich
Director of Youth Ministry

Please join us immediately following the Sunday service for our Coffee Hour
(in-person in Trinity Court or online via Zoom).

Theme for Sunday

Holy One, you are our comfort and strength in times of sudden disaster, crisis, or chaos. Surround us now with your grace and peace through storm or earthquake, fire or flood. By your Spirit, lift up those who have fallen, sustain those who work to rescue or rebuild, and fill us with the hope of your new creation; through Jesus Christ, our rock and redeemer.

Questions for Reflection
  • Was there ever a time in your life, or in the life of your family or community, where you had no idea how you were going to keep going in the face of trouble or hardship? How did you make it through from that time until now?

  • If you had to tell a story about how God has been present in your life, what would that story be? Is that story about a good or a bad time in your life?
Psalm 34:15-18

The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
and his ears are open to their cry.
The face of the Lord is against evildoers,
to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears
and rescues them from all their troubles.
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted
and saves the crushed in spirit.

Isaiah 58:9b-12

If you remove the yoke from among you,
the pointing of the finger, the speaking of evil,
if you offer your food to the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the afflicted,
then your light shall rise in the darkness
and your gloom be like the noonday.
The Lord will guide you continually
and satisfy your needs in parched places
and make your bones strong,
and you shall be like a watered garden,
like a spring of water
whose waters never fail.
Your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt;
you shall raise up the foundations of many generations;
you shall be called the repairer of the breach,
the restorer of streets to live in.
