Greetings!

After 37 years of ordained ministry, and 27 on staff with the Presbytery of San Jose, it is time to retire. I have always believed that we best see the hand of God in our lives not when looking forward, but when we look back. So, looking back on my time in ministry, three things come to mind: 1, God always shows up; 2, It's not about me; 3, You should welcome refugees. I will share more on these thoughts during my time with you this Sunday.

Questions for Reflection
  • Looking back on your life, can you remember times when you most strongly felt the presence of God? What were the circumstances?

  • When thinking about the times and seasons of life, when and how do you know “it’s time?” Is it intuition, “feelings,” hints from those around you, logic and reasoning?
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

For everything there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven:

a time to be born and a time to die;
a time to plant and a time to pluck up what is planted;
a time to kill and a time to heal;
a time to break down and a time to build up;
a time to weep and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn and a time to dance;
a time to throw away stones and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to seek and a time to lose;
a time to keep and a time to throw away;
a time to tear and a time to sew;
a time to keep silent and a time to speak;
a time to love and a time to hate;
a time for war and a time for peace.
