This worship video is the second part of our first “Drash Weekend” of shared sermons with Temple Israel, the Reform synagogue of Ottawa. The service on Saturday January 23 at Temple Israel featured a sermon by the Rev. Gary van der Meer on the Torah Portion Yitro, Exodus 18:1-20:23. We are delighted to welcome Rabbi Daniel Mikelberg this Sunday at St John the Evangelist. Rabbi Daniel’s sermon addresses the scriptures for the Third Sunday after the Epiphany - with a special focus on Nehemiah 8:1-10, and also addressing Psalm 19 and 1 Corinthians 12:12-31a.

This video includes portions from both Sunday services, held at 8:00 a.m. and at 10:15 a.m. The music includes a prelude by the Jewish composer Ernest Bloch (1880-1958) and the hymn Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee, which takes its music from Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.
