Adult Education

March Adult Education Schedule

In March, the Adult Education hour will be dedicated to a series on Legal Immigration. There is great political controversy regarding the control of immigration, both legal and illegal, worldwide today. Few people understand how the legal process in the USA works. Through this series, we hope to provide some clarity to the legal process for both refugees and asylees. Adult Education is on Sundays at 9:15 am in the sanctuary.

March 17: Yusuf Abdi, Sr. Director of Refugee Services, at Lutheran Social Services of Minnesota (LSSMN) and Margaret Yapp, the Volunteer Coordinator for Refugee Services at LSSMN,
will describe the process for refugees coming to Minnesota as well as the process for Asylees. Refugees have been vetted by several US government agencies for immigrants coming to the USA and then are cleared by Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services to come to Minnesota. Margaret will describe how LSSMN then assures these legal refugee(s) a safe and warm welcome in Minnesota through the "Circle of Welcome" program. Margaret has been working at LSSMN 3 years and is a graduate of Luther College where she majored in English and Religion. Yusuf will talk about the Asylee process.

March 24: Pastor Gilo Agwa will share with us how the Asylee process works. Gilo came to this country as an Asylee in 2011 and his family arrived as Asylees in 2014. To be an asylee, a person has to show proof that his life is in danger if he returns to his home country and then must go through the legal process and wait for clearance to stay in the USA until his application for Asylum is granted. Pastor Agwa will share how difficult it was for his family while waiting for approval to join him here in the USA. Pastor Agwa has a Masters of Divinity degree from Dubuque University Seminary in Iowa. Pastor Gilo is employed as a part-time Chaplain at Good Samaritan in Stillwater and also as a part-time leader of the joint Ministry for the Ethiopian immigrants and refugees in Minnesota sponsored by the SPAS of the ELCA and the Presbyteria of the Twin Cities Area.

March 31: Pastor Kathryn Tiede, Senior Director of Church Partnerships and Philanthropy for Lutheran Social Services of Minnesota (LSSMN) will share how Refugee Resettlement is financed and will describe the services that LSSMN provides for immigrants as well how LSSMN touches the lives of people in nearly every county in Minnesota.  Pastor Tiede, who has served in parish ministry both in the ELCA and The Episcopal Church will be preaching at both services. She is passionate about the work of the Gospel as it is lived out in congregations and communities, and is excited about the opportunity to be with us.

Ministry Opportunities

Stephen Ministry

In I Thessalonians 5 Paul writes, "Therefore encourage one another and build each other up... Encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone."  God has called us all to build up and encourage one another.  For those who are experiencing a difficult time, our Stephen Ministers are providing the special encouragement, care, and support needed.  Please keep Our Savior's Stephen Ministers and their care receivers in your prayers!  Prayer matters!

Request for Prayers and Support

Everyday joys and sorrows...Once in a lifetime joys and sorrows. Your brothers and sisters at Our Savior's want to support you. Email or call Pastor Christine Wenzel or Parish Nurse, Stacy Meyer, with any of your needs.
Giving Opportunities
Simply Giving

A more convenient way to give! In a few short minutes, you can make a one-time gift or set up a donation that will process automatically on a recurring basis. Recurring donations are convenient and provide our church with much needed consistent support throughout the year. To give online, visit our church's website and get set up!
